after lodging the paperwork in BKK, what would be the average time before the aus embassy contacts me/us?

so far any emails i have sent go unanswered, not even an automatic reply of acknowledgement.

i know the process takes time and they are busy, but surely some sort of contact wouldn't be unreasonable.

interested to hear others experiences.

thanks, tom.

I think when I applied last year it took about 1.5wks for first contact via email to say that they had received my application

and I had been assigned a case officer. Once they do that you can send emails direct to your case officer and get replies within

a couple of days, although I suggest not hassling them if its not necessary.

After first contact I received confirmation about 1wk later with an interview date set 2wks later.

So all up it was about 5wks before getting an interview than another 3wks for the visa to be granted. This was all back in September last year.

One other thing I should mention is that you wont ever be contacted unless you filled out a form 956 giving you the right to deal with your Fiance's application.

My boyfriend just recently had his visa approved 2-3 weeks ago.

We submitted the application on the 6th February he received a phone call exactly one week later, arranged for his interview to be held on the 4th March and received confirmation by email + voicemail on the 23rd March that it was approved and he collected his visa on the 26th March. Very efficient process we thought.

I had no contact at all with our case officer and on the one occassion I rang her she actually called my boyfriend back instead of me. It was only when my boyfriend didn't respond immediately to the voicemail regarding the approved visa she emailed me to confirm.

There is no harm in contacting the embassy and providing your partners passport number and ask them to provide you with the file number, for peace of mind that the application is being looked at.

Good luck, the waiting is the worse part.

it's been a week since lodging so perhaps can expect contact shortly, we did fill out form 956 as well, beter for me to take care of discrepences etc, although her english would rate 90%, sometimes her comprehension is not as high.

thanks mate

The Case Officers are Thai.......so her english skills wont come in to it.

Even with the 956 form filled out they will not contact you unless it is absolutely necessary.....the 956 doesnt give you the right to all correspondance.

They will not contact the applicant until they receive the medical and police clearance.

Be patient and dont start sending e mails etc.... to them unless it is asked for or necessary
