Avoiding A Civil War

Featured Replies

New Elections: If the Red shirts fail to form a government they will once again start protesting. If the Red Shirts win, then they will be out for revenge and the PAD will start up or there will be a coup.

Army Crackdown: Different factions of the Army will be fighting in the streets. There will be terrorist attacks on Bangkok as we have seen from the nightly grenades going off.

?

Sounds about right

And all we can do is watch

:)

What is scary is the red mob mentality. Its like everyone who works minimum wage in Bangkok is now a Red Shirt. :)

Their expectations have been raised much more than any government can deliver. Maybe some good karma for the violent red thugs to win their revolution and then see how they can't possibly deliver what they have propagandized the poor to believe. For example the 100K baht or 1 million baht each protester is expecting from Thaksin. Do you really think he will just give it away?

How is this situation ever going to go away? The Reds are not going to lose their stronghold on the North anytime soon. The Yellows are just itching for a Military Coup. They want a return to old ways but a Military Coup doesn't work when the other side has grenades. The West seems to be less interested in Thailand by the day. I feel like PAD is going to be setting up shop any day as it feels right now that there is not a Yellow shirt in the country and that most bother many people.

It does not seem like the Thais in power have the stomach for any of this. There are solutions but none of them are easy. I am leaning more and more towards believing that one side is going to make a bad move and it will domino effect in chaos. I hope I am wrong.

It won't even begin to be settled until after the things we can't talk about are resolved. Is Thailand doomed? It may be. Hope not, but I have not ever been witness to such a perfect storm of a train wreck in my life.

Unless there are 'reported' armed factions in many major cities, a civil war is not predominent.

It appears as though some people want a civil war. :)

Red Love will spread throughout Thailand and will bring peace/prosperity to all. :)

Yes some people do want Civil war. Mainly the ones with guns and tanks, then they can rule Thailand, They Took over a few years ago and handed power back , but this time I think not,

I wonder who gave them the 'orders'?

For a nation that looks down on people who get angry or lose their temper (lose face). It seems the country does not want the road to peace. I hope for the best but preparing for the worst. No matter who is in power there will only be another group to protest as the group before.

Best of luck Thailand

That peace-y/polite-y/jai yen-ey thingie turns out to be more complicated than the tourism brochures would indicate. Land of smiles? Hmmmmm.

yes, i was always taught by my Thai friends all these social rules are fine,,,,,,,,,,,,, untill and if a Thai is backed into a corner with no way out...........then watch out !! big time..

the established thai social rules are there to make sure there is always (nearly) a way out for both sides..
