I use an online system at deedial.com

You register your phone with them either online or by calling them. Then go to the 7/11 and pay some credit into the account - best to print out the page unless you speak Thai - be persistent and you will get it done.

Then use their smart call feature - you enter numbers on a web interface and a local number is assigned to you, when you call this local number from your cellphone you will be charged for a local call on the cellphone and a very cheap rate from your pre paid credit.

I've saved probably 30-40,000 Bt this way over the last two months making calls to Europe each day. Sometimes I can be on the phone for an hour and it costs less than 100 Bt.
