webfact
Silom Evacuated After Bombs Go Off BANGKOK: -- TAN Network correspondent Chaowarat Yongjiranon reported while doing a story in the Phatpong area that at least three bomb-like sounds were heard were heard around 8 P.M. on Thursday evening. Three more were later heard. Authorities quickly evacuated the area, not sure of whether the sounds were really bombs or merely firecrackers lit by the red shirt protesters to scare off the multi-colored shirt supporters in the area. Reports indicated that the sounds could have been firecrackers lit by red shirt protesters who were trying to intimidate. Other reports suggested that they were indeed the sounds of M79 grenades being launched into the group of multi-colored shirt protesters who have come to show their displeasure with the red shirts. It has so far been reported that they were likely bombs, but officials have not revealed what kind of bombs or grenades were used in the attacks. At least three more blasts have since been reported, including a bomb that reportedly went off in front of the Bangkok Bank headquarters. Initial reports suggest that there were four injuries. At least two of them have been confirmed to be foreigners. 20 other injuries were then reported in subsequent attacks. Along with other businesses in the area, the BTS Skytrain at the Saladeng Station has evacuated all passengers. -- Tan Network 2010-04-22 [newsfooter][/newsfooter]

londonthai
it looks like some other shirts "black" or "blue" are trying to stirr some mess to their own benefits - blame it on the reds or the muslims from the south, to introduce martial law and possibly yet another military coup. Happened before on the new year's eve. ps it was a granade and not a bomb, as usual exaggeration from the nation Edited April 22, 2010 by londonthai

yankeedoodledandee
it looks like some other shirts "black" or "blue" are trying to stirr some mess to their own benefits The report below is incorrect. The first blast was right before 8pm, then 2 minutes later there was another, then the third blast was just after 8pm, maybe around 8:10 or so. Most people fled to Thanon Convent to get out of trouble. We were lucky to get out before further blasts. gemini81
The only time people have died is when the PM has used force. So maybe that's why? ?? So the only other option then is to just let the economic capital collapse, and let one group of people do as they like to cripple their own country? No other country would ever be this tolerant. padfoot
Remember, the government cannot use any force. They have to let people shoot at them and kill civilians till their heart's content. But no force can be used against the perpetrators. So soldiers and citizens, just stand there and let people shoot you.

otherstuff1957
It is true that we don't know who shot those grenades yet... and we may never know for sure. However, the only ones who will benefit from escalating violence are the Reds themselves. Furthermore, the grenade attacks that started during the Yellow protests and have continued to the present have always targeted people or institutions that are seen as being hostile to the Reds. While a 'false flag operation' is always possible, this would be an unusually prolonged one! I do hope that the army does not respond rashly to this provocation. A harsh response is exactly what the more extreme Reds want. Also, it would be a huge PR boost for the Reds if the Red Guards arrested the extremists who did this and turned them over to the police. mythBuster
So the hunt is on for a party that has everything to win with a bloody action from the army against the red shirts. It is always the same, always it are military grade weapons, grenades or explosives, to stir up the trouble. It was indeed very loud, I am staying at Soi Sala Daeng not to far from the station.
