I am just watching Tv and the stuff in Silom, and wondering if all the helicopters I can hear near Klong Toey and also over near Din Daend mean that something is going to happen after the violence today in Silom etc

Just saw 2 military helecopters over suk and I sure hope they will get it.

Saying that this is not Baghdad or Kabul and they are not going to start shooting from the air. I just wish they would drive them out on the ground. 90% would flee back to Issan and the rest would be rounded up.

Why they cannot wait 9 months for an election is beyond me. What difference would 9 months make aside from giving them more time to prepare?

....oh I forgot Takkies money is running out

I would think helicopters in the town centre are useless, otherwise than to spot what's happening on the ground - or who is hiding on the rooftops.

they can't be part of any other policing operation

If the army fails to act tonight, tomorrow' pink rally will quickly become a lynch mob.

Yes but unfortunately the pink shirts would get lynched.

We've seen that before in the mid-west haven't we? :-)

PM Abhist made a very clear offer for further talks in order to reach the solution and unfortunately the Red shirts rejected that opportunity. As of that result, the cause of the conflict causing many injured & death is exactly what Red Shirts are asking for as alternative to PM Abhisit's offer. What bad choice, do Red shirts realise that? Oh I forget one more thing....Not only takkies money running out but the cost of these lifes as well.

An inflammatory off topic and rather pointless remark has been deleted. As have all the inflammatory off topic and pointless responses.

Keep it civil and try to keep the fanatical dogma in check, cheers

Sorry,

just trying to add an educated and balanced view to some of the hysteria flying around. may have been a little ott but some of the rubbish that is written with nothing to back it up is quite hilarious.

My mobile phone (1-2 Call) is showing network failure, emergency. I am near Udomsuk (Sukhumvit 103) Are other people see4ing this? Is it the result of sabotage? Has the government temporarily closed down the system during a crackdown?

If I understand the last post in the read only topic correctly then I assume that the area will be cleaned up when the sun comes up.

Or at least they will give it a try.

I stay in Sukhumvit Soi 4, no problem with mobile.

Cleanup? I not believe that.

Can someone please explain to me or show some examples in what country in the world in say recent 50 years, civilians were able to hold a military train with soldiers and weapons? and if somewhere that did happen, there was no recourse?

I am now seriously confused. If this is how Thai Military operates, i only hope conflict with Cambodia does not get bigger or before you know it, Thailand will be a province of Cambodia

Posts referencing HM the King in a political context have been removed. This is not allowed.

Off topic posts spouting more dogma have been removed. You have 14,000 other threads you can air your views in, lets try to keep this one on topic with people on the scene reporting what they see and what they know. Cheers.

The 'red shirts' have never been interested in 'talks', not then, not now. Not in Taksin's interest for people to sit down and negotiate. Mayhem leading to civil war is. I mean, can you imagine how his blood boiled when he saw his sheep dancing along to the army's playing music, having a party at his expense? That's exactly when the order was given to his ronin's to open fire to speed things along. :)

There wasn't an option for Mark simply doesn't have the guts or I would have voted that. So voted 'more of the same. If Taksin's henchmen don't see him off, his now very frustrated and disgruntled former supporters most certainly will.

Probably just reliability issues of the network, or the SIM might have list a contact and unregistered itself momentarily.

Helicopter gunships were used on Thammasat students in 1973.

I can't see helicopter gunship to be used against citisens in the contemporary thailand - completely different era.

thammasat massacre was during the cold and vietnam war, when thailand was at the forefront of defending usa interests in the se asia.

now the usa government is warning abhisit not to use power in any form, thai army is divided and indecisive, there is a democratically elected parliament, human rights groups are vocal and active. There is access to independent media through international press and internet, local censorship is not that tight

I doubt if anything is going to happen and if it does it will be an chaotic bloody mess as it always is. The military should've cordoned off the whole area days ago and isolated the buggers by setting up massive road blocks north, south, east and west of that intersection and not allowing any food, water or supplies to be brought in or any access. It wouldn't be hard to do. From my understanding a lot of the red mod go home at night to sleep so they could've rolled the APC's in at 3.00 am and set up double check points stopping any access. Then they could then use psychological tactics by showing continuous pictures of som tam, kao neow and gai yang on large screens set up around the red's encampment.

They surely can't be used, other than, of course, dropping tear gas directly on the Reds which is exactly how they will be used. The Red's leaders are aware of this and they will have protection, but the women and children won't, not that the Red's leaders actually care anything about them. If it wasn't for the women and children, where would Jatuporn get his martyrs from?

The government will most probably close down communications, but the fact that I am sending you this let's you know no problems. Additionally, I am near the airport and no phone problems.

Ah, the innocence.

They were used to drop tear gas grenades on April 10th.

The army has set up (actually re-manned) their check point on Route 345 in Pathumthani. Lots of soldiers and even barbed wire barricades standing by on the side of the road. The police have increased their presence too at the temporary check point on the Nonthaburi side of the bridge. Something must be up.
