Kohdam
I would like to make a visa run from Chiang Rai .What is the best option from there? Is it ok going to Chang Seng and simply pass the Mekong River ?I remembered there's an immigration point there Thank you very much Bye Edited April 26, 2010 by Kohdam
nickjam
Get on a motorbike and head straight for Mai Sai. It took me about an hour each way last week. The Burmese immigration were well friendly. All in all the most pleasant and painless visa run I've ever done!
mrcycling
There is a border crossing to Laos at Chang Khong, not Chang Saen. And one at Mae Sai to Myanmar. The visa fee to "enter" Myanmar is cheaper than the fee for Laos. And Mae Sai is closer.
xm911e3
If one were to go Mae Sai, how many days visa can one get? 15 or 30 days? I'll planning to go Mae Sai to get an extension of 30 days after my visa expires.
Ricardo
If one were to go Mae Sai, how many days visa can one get? 15 or 30 days? I'll planning to go Mae Sai to get an extension of 30 days after my visa expires. You're a little behind-the-times, I believe. Land-crossings now give 15 days, only arrivals-by-air get 30 days. So maybe two runs up to Mae-Sai ?

skiller
I did this last week. I have 6 month triple entry visa and I got another 60 days. The Burmese immigration were well friendly That´s right. But the Burmese people which are selling cigaretts at the market are very bad people. They push and force you to buy. In the end I guess you don´t know hat you are getting. Cheers Skiller
chris5346
you can get a bus from chiang rai to mai sai it's only 40 minutes or you can find someone private to take you. no need for a company really. you can just goto the burmese immigration on the bridge and say no shopping and you get to keep your passport and can walk back into thailand . or you can go shopping in tachilek but your passport remains at the border. cost is 500 baht . laos costs 1500 baht. cekipa
Is 1,500 baht the cost of the bus ? Is there a bus station in Chiang Rai where to get it ? I have to plan my visa run for 25/10 and never been in Chiang Rai. Thank you
