Extension Of Stay - Based On Marriage

Featured Replies

I have tried a search, but cannot find an answer to my specific circumstances, thank you for your assistance in advance!

I have been in Thailand on a Non Imm B since April 2009, did my last border run on 22nd March so visa valid until 19th June, getting married at the Amphur tomorrow and wish to get an extension of stay based on marriage at immigration. I need to return to the UK in mid May until mid September (4 months) for work, which I only found out last week.

I am a bit confused regarding a couple of 30 day 'rules', am I able to apply for the extension even though I will have more than 30 days left on my current visa, also I believe that only a temporary extension is granted (for 30 days) before the 'full' year extension is granted, by which time I will be out of the country.

I also understand that I will need a re-entry permit, providing I can get the extension!

If I am unable to get the extension before I leave, what is the minimum 'Visa' I will need to get back in and be able to extend.

Thanks

You do not have time to obtain an extension of stay so just obtain a new single entry non immigrant O visa prior to your return and then do it (60 days later). With marriage paperwork you can obtain such a visa at any Thai Consulate.

That is what I suspected, but it is good to have it confirmed by an expert! It may also be wise for me to get a multi-entry in case I get called away again at short notice - I'll compare the costs and decide on the 'risk'!

Thanks again for the quick response!
