Proof Of Bank Balance

Featured Replies

I will soon make an extension of visa based on marriage and as such have paid 400,000Bt into a deposit account

When I make the application I have read to get a letter from the bank and update the bank book

The question is if I have not made any dealings on the account the book will not update but just show the original amount ?

Most banks can update your book with a computer stroke to indicate the current date/amount (although some have said K Bank can not do this). Just make a deposit of a few baht in that case.

A bankbook update shows the account balance as of that date. Don't forget that the 400k baht needs to have been on deposit for 2 months prior for the first marriage extension.

Getting the marriage extension is not a done deal.

The 3 immigration officers who visited my house seemed to think 50/50 chance.

Even though I had mother-in-law, step daughter and both the neighbours wives here when they did the surprise visit.

Didn't ask me any questions, but did ask the neighbours wives if they heard me beating the wife ever (<deleted>?)

Wife beating is the norm over here, maybe I need to do it before they think I have a real relationship!

This is one crazy country, legit married people get refused visas and tourists don't come because of civil unrest.

Seems to me they just don't want foreigners in Thailand.

Why would your chances be 50/50 if all of your paperwork is in order?

I've never had a 'surprise' visit from immigration to my house in 8 years. Sounds like they were waiting to be offered a very expensive cup of tea and looking for some info to make it impossible for you to refuse it!

Well spotted. Been here long?

When you go into the bank just ask them for an immigration letter. They know what you need and will automatically update your passbook at the same time. Between asking for the letter, and receiving it, don't make any withdrawal. If you make a withdrawal they will start the process again. That applies to the Kasikorn Bank. They give you the letter next day. I have also done it using my SCB account. They do it whilst you wait.

Don't know about other banks but........... watch this space...................

Exactly. I needed a letter AND an updated bank book. Cost a few baht to do, but no biggie. Took 10 minutes. I did this for SCB and Bangkok Bank.

I notice a couple of people going the route of "they just don't want foreigners here".

Really?

They could simply outlaw foreigners taking up residence. No country is required by international law to accept foreigners for residence purposes.

Now if you said they don't want a particular kind of foreigner taking of residence here, or that they only want certain kinds of foreigners taking up residence here...that I can buy.
