Skin Care Clinics; Is Bumrungrad Okay?

Featured Replies

Any thoughts on Bumrungrad Hospital as a whole? I've heard and have seen of some negative stories regarding the hospital, but this is a given considering how large and popular it is.

But is it really that bad? My girlfriend is looking to visit the skin care clinic for syringoma removal and Bumrungrad's department is one of our three choices (Bangkok Dermatology Center and Yanhee.net hospital are the others). We're thinking of Bumrungrad because it's the only one we're familiar with.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's about the doctor, not the place. You could just as likely get the same quality doctoring at the smallest clinic as at the fanciest hospital..

I'd say, look for doctor recommendations, rather than hospital recommendations

Bangkok Dermatology Center and Dr. Orawan is generally considered to be the top skin care center in Bangkok by the medical community. I would recommend them among your 3 choices that you suggested.

There website is bkkdermato.com.

Yanhee and Bumrungrad would be lower on my list.

Dr. Orwan is also associated with Bumrungrad as well as having a clinic in the Bangkok Phuket Hospital.

I've had a couple bouts of skin cancer - can afford to see anyone I want (not rich, just good insurance) - and I see Dr. Niyom at Bumrungrad. Though my home is on Phuket, I fly up to BKK to see him. He is a MOHS specialist (important if you end up with cancer on your face for example) and speaks English well.

While I generally agree that it's not the hospital, it's the doctor - I have to say that I have had very good luck with several specialists at Bumrungrad.

True, it may be the doctor, but a good hospital is a good place to start the search.

I have to admit that Bumrungrad is one of the top hospitals in Thailand if not the top. Unfortunately, some of their departments have very low standards. I have had very mixed experiences there. Now I know much more about the medical field in Thailand and I haven't ever returned to Bumrungrad. There are a few specialists at Bumrungrad that are among the best in their field though. There are also some doctors there that would have their medical license stripped if they were in the USA.
