Hello everyone

We're in Cambodia at the moment and my husband refuses to see a doctor here about what I believe is a some kind of eczema. I have Betnovate which I use occasionally for eczema flare ups and want him to have a go with it, as I think it will work. The thing is, we're in the tropics and he sweats a lot. I haven't been able to find any info on google about how long it takes for the absorption time - i.e. with sunblock I know I have to put it on 20 minutes before I go out because it takes 20 minutes for the active ingredients to absorb into the skin.

Is anyone able to tell me how long I should have him sit under the air conditioner or ceiling fan to keep cool before heading outside, where within 5 minutes he'll be very damp to say the least? I'm hoping the absorption rate is not too long - I know with some pills it can be hours before they reach peak, which would be a bit impractical.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give - I probably should know this for myself anyway for when I have to use it.

The absorption of topical applications should only be to the affected skin; there should be no systemic absorption,

The effect of the substance will depend on whether it is a cream or an ointment, the skin thickness and the presence of an inflammatory process (faster).

If this is eczema, relief of any itching will occur within an hour or so; the redness will only be less after several applications.

The application of a steroid like Betnovate and the if condition is actually a fungal infection it wil make it worse.

Impossible to say from the detail supplied if it is eczema or not.

Thank you for that - I had been thinking fungal and if so we need Canisteen or something similar. I think I will pull out the big guns and persuade him to go to see a doctor - we're in Sihanoukville and I've just discovered that there is an almost western standard clinic here.

Thank you for your information and help - in Australia and I'm sure most other western countries we are told time and again not to give other people your prescribed medication even if they have the same symptoms as you. It is something I was choosing to ignore due to his refusal to see a Cambodian doctor.

Thank you again, and please let it be a warning or reminder to others - don't share medication that was specifically prescribed for you - you could make things worse.
