heychay
The sooner Cliff Richard gives up his singing career (sad as that may be) and get's into politics the better, so HE can sort out this crazy messed up world. falux
Ok, I'll try my best.My Thai GF just informed me that there used to be a huge problem with drugs in Thailand, and that the severe punishments dramatically lowered the problems of the issue. She also confirmed that thai dealers do not get lifetime, but execution. I wonder when the producers will be caught, or is that, for some reason, not possible If that's your best shot I'm afraid it's not good enough. Can you please enlighten me as to what any of what you have posted has to do with Cliff Richard and his making of criminal records? So kind. What the ###### do I have to do with Cliff Richard ??? I will not answer any of your posts again, so please don't try bothering. We should do something about those children accessing computers unattended! Tornado
I feel for this young bloke. I have done things in life that were wrong and so have all of you. I understand there should be punishment under the Thai law and the sentence is what they have set, so I have to respect that - but I do not agree with it. The Bangkok Hilton will do nothing to this lad other than finish him off quickly both morally and emotionally.

jamiewilson
he got 99 years, if anyone's interested. What's with the moral judgements, anyway; sure he did a stupid thing but isn't it hard not to feel compassion for a guy who's got a hundred birthday's to look forward to with no nice food, no sex and no bed. I mean really guys, have a heart, just because he's stupid doesn't mean he truly deserves to suffer like he's going to...
DaveYo
Listen up folks, in case many of you don't know a lot of these dealers or baggers as they are the ones bringing in the stuff from the outside, they do get released from the prison from time to time, and many here in thailand actually do have photos showing these convicts walking the streets free as a bird with no escort in sight. If the price is right they do go free. For example, say there is a house and other items put under auction and someone buys it for a sweet deal, (like a drug lords house and expensive vehicles etc., these drug lords do get out and do get their contacts and take care of business to recover their assets. This is well known all over thailand. Yet the authorities deny such occurred, even when the public actually have bonifide proof with photos dated and marked showing these people are mingling with society free as one can be. Many of you expats don't even know the real scoop here in Thailand. This country is not like GB or USA. Your in a totally different enviroment and if you say the wrong words or speak it the wrong way, these people here will terminate you and claim that you insulted them. The Thai people are very sensitive to subjects that they hold dear to them. So I warn you expats, be very careful of what you say or do. Some Thai people do know english and some other languages, but they sure are not going to let you know cause it is their secret. Daveyo. As of the kid, that is a life sentence period. What gets me is the stupid authorities, not only here but elsewhere give out huge numbers. A normal persons life span is average around 75 years. What you going to do at that age or older?????? So if say a person is 20 years old, giving a sentence of 50 years itself pretty much puts them away if they live that long. If they are still alive, and get out at 70 years of age, odds are you will be dead shortly thereafter. If you are say 40 then give a sentence of 30 , the very same deal. The older you are the smaller the sentence if the judge wants you put away for almost natural life.

stroll
I believe it is a human right to expect your children to go to schools free of drugs. As for ssit like this: Don't get me wrong, I think the dealers should be severely punished, but opposite to a rape or other crime, the drug consumers normally take them voluntarily. is that a fact? Like drug pushers don't hook their victims in by supplying cheap drugs to start the market. Isn't selling drugs to children, or forcing others to take drugs another issue? How can one go as far as to say bringing a few thousand ecstasies into Thailand is to make schools more dangerous or to force people taking them? Most cases I know are people looking for them(drugs). A small mistake like that means life? That is totally bullshit! 100% hypocrisy! Unsurprisingly, there are enough hypocrites in this world to support these sorts of phenomena. (Sorry I join in quite late, have been away a while) Well said, meemiathai, when righteous know-it-alls can't tell an 'A' from a 'B' and start a chorus of 'hang'em high', one needs to make a firm clarifying statement. Ice Treasure
Hang the peice of scum. Extremely useful and cogitated post. Now go back and play with your toys, will you. Let the adults continue the discussion. Besides, your spelling is fascinating. 20% of your post is wrong. The rest doesn't make sense. Damm 6 weeks later and you beat me to the punch. His excellent grasp of English coupled with the most apt nick on the forum. The thing missing is probably "40 baht per night.. tossing recommended", but naturally as a nick that would be far too long.. I would just run with "tosser". Ice Treasure
The thing that most stood out to me, apart from the monk (yeah he did have a good point and was kinda spiritual brutal and ruthless :-P), was most suprising the 19yr old kid had already b1tched some thai into cleaning, washing his stuff and doing things for him in reward for food....and only 4months into a 99 yr bird....attaboy! Money rules.... In fact the ladyboys run their own businesses. There is no requirement to "bitch" anyone. They offer fee for service. For you do-gooders, find out who the visiting missionary is, the UK Embassy will know, the yanks won't. Cantact them. Send money by postal order. The prison is not run by the officers it is run by inmates who are in for murder. Yes. I have.
Heng
One good thing about Thai prisons, the prisoners come out broken and weak (at least judging from our ex-con stick figure bodied construction workers). Not like US prisons where they come out stronger (from working out every single day for 5-10+ years) and meaner.
stroll
I have known several Thais before and after an extended 'vacation', and it didn't seem to have an adverse effect on them, except for one, who died in custody. Personally, I don't wish it upon anybody, and don't understand how it can not effect one's life profoundly.
bartender100
It is a harsh sentence by weatern standards, and the boy was a fool, but there have been plenty of warnings in the western press about the penalties for drug smuggling in asia. Couthy
Wasn't it reported at the time that he had learning difficulties?. I think that is a polite way of saying he was 'thick'. The boy got set up. Happens all the time. However, trafficking drugs carries severe penalties in any country. Was it the Finns or the Swedes who did a study some 30 years ago which resulted in the fact that after 7 years in a prison a person becomes instituionalised. (spelling?). Hence the punishment factor is of no use after that time?. Can't see that locking up a daft laddie for 30 years is going to have any impact on the international drug trade.
