My Canadian passport is running out of pages. I am currently in Canada and am thinking that it would be a good time to get a new one. But my Non-Imm Visa B is in my current passport with the Re-entry stamp. If I get a new passport what happens when I get to the Airport in Bangkok. Will they accept and stamp the re-entry in my old passport?

When I renew my Visa B will it be put in my new Passport even if my work permit is tied to the Visa?

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

I just renewed my USA passport and my (unexpired) non-O visa was in my old passport. I showed immigration both passports and they gave me an entrance visa in my new passport. No problems or questions

Does that mean you got a stamp validating your Visa-O or an entrance visa good for 30 days?

Immigration at the airport simply gives a stamp showing date of entry with no expiry date. The immigration office a person reports to will transfer the visa to the new passport, when they report to them.

if you have a valid visa you will be stamped in for 90 days, if a valid re-entry permit till the date you were origianally allowed to stay before you left the country. Either they will transfer details of your visa/permission to stay at the airport or you will have to go to your immigration office.

Mine isnot 90 days it has no expiry date . Also all the entry times before immigration put in the date of visa expiry date not 90 days.I amnot sure about your 90 day statement.Though I have seen it stated here before that visa 90 day report starts again on entry date. But I have never been party to that with all my entries. My original date has been the one used since firist arrival.

OP seems to have a re-entry permit and an extension of stay rather than a multi entry visa so the date will be the same as current extension of stay date.

Immigration should have given you two stamps, one with the entry date and one that tells you till wich date you are permitted to stay.

Ok so if I have understood. I show immigration my multiple re-entry Visa in my old passport. They will stamp this visa when I enter Thailand at the airport. Then when I have my papers to re-new my Visa B it will be put into the new passport. Then I still have to carry around the old one which shows the date I entered the country until I leave the country and have them stamp my new passport with my exit and enter using my new passport with the new visa. Then they should just stamp my entrance as well and I am good to go.

Does this sound about right?

If you really have a multi entry visa you would not need a re-entry permit - believe you actually had a visa that has been extended and are nor using the re-entry permit for travel?

After you enter Thailand you should go to Immigration and have them transfer your old extension of stay/re-entry permit into your new passport. Once that is done you will not need the old passport for travel.

You show both passports to immigration and they will give you the stamps in your new passport. They might trabsfer the details of you visa etc at the airport or you will have to go to your immigraiton office for that.

Since you have a re-entry permit, you don't have a valid visa. Once immigration has transfered the stamps and details from your old passport into your new passport you don't need the old passport anymore.

Don't wait to transfer the details to your new passport till the extension, unless you have to go soon. Transferring the details is free and shouldn't take too long.

My mistake. I have a multiple re-entry permit for my Visa B. It will expire May 31st and I have the documents from the University to extend the visa for another year.

So I get the stamps in my old passport upon entry and then get the Visa transferred or renewed into the new one. Then I am good to go correct?

Your old passport is invalid for new stamps - they will be put in your new passport and then you visit Immigration to transfer the stamps in your old passport (although it seems you also need to obtain a new extension of stay).

So enter with both - they will put stamps in new - visit immigration to do your extension of stay and they will take care of it - first putting old extension information/visa information in the new passport and then your new extension of stay (and new re-entry permit if you buy).

I have a one year, multiple-entry Non-Immigrant B visa in my now "old" passport, as I have just picked up my "new" passport. At the U.S. Embassy they gave me a letter, to Thai Immigration, which says, "It would be appreciated if you could transfer the bearer's immigration stamp from his cancelled passport to the new one."

So do I have to go to Immigration (with the "Transfer Stamp to New Passport" form) to have this done? Or do I just show both passports when I leave/re-enter?

The visa can not be changed so if you want to enter again using it you will have to show both passport. The procedure has been to transfer your current permitted to stay stamp and make change of passport entries into the new passport with a visit to Immigration. There have been several reports of recently of them saying just take care of it on next exit. Let us know how your situation develops and anyone having done this process within the last month you reports could be helpful.
