I guess she was amongst a number throwing rocks, and got hit by a stray bullet. We're just left with the shocking picture we don't know, could have been a gun battle raging! I see your point, but you don't know what happened and shouldn't write such things.

What is the expression? You get what you sow? The Thai government hasn't done enough to keep education a top priotity in the rural area ( most of the students in the North and Isaan only go to school until they're 15, then go to the big cities to work for minimum wage-- which is lousy); they're also not taught critical thinking skills (so they believe anyone); and (of course) no civics class to teach them how democracy works and their civic duty NOT to take bribes. Whoever ends up winning in the next election, I hope drastic measures are taken to improve the gap so "thugs" like Thaksin can no longer convince these simple minded people that he's "god".

You hit it on the nail. Good education is the key out of poverty.

how about go home and you won't get shot? how about the sharpened bamboo spears, the stacks of bricks and rocks, the gasoline bombs, or even guilty by association. Get your children out of the war zone and go home and value life. If you want a better life, get started, don't think someone is going to hand it to you. As far as those pics are concerned, nobody here knows the situation that preceded them getting shot. How horrible! how uninformed! :)

The situation is more complex, as many of the people are think. it's not black or white. or yellow or red.

The red and yellow shirts have their well founded reasons. it's neccesary to find a compromise.

Finally someone logical and piratical. The issues go way beyond red and yellow. Reds and yellows should worry a lot less about hating the other side and try to get their own acts together.

Might also aply to some of your posting.

People riot for a reason and usually after severe prolonged suffering, in this case because they are sick of being downtrodden.

reds are fighting for democracy. they ask for reelection. so the who support the gov are simply brainless nazi.

So I suppose the fact that the government has proposed a timeline for elections (more than a year ahead of schedule) is completely wasted on you. That is so typical of fanatical supporters of ANY faction. You and your kind only choose to pay attention to the facts that support your belief.

And since when is forcing an election through the use of illegal activities any part of a true democracy?

So I guess that the yellow shirts activities that took over government house and the two major airports is not lawless. Remember you get what you sow and the PAD set a precedence in their actions. They also protested and got the Army to stage the last coup but then that was legal in all of your eyes and what the Red shirts are doing now is not. That is one of the reasons they are out there now dual standards for the rich. The PM agrees that elections should have been held to make the elected government legal, but he wants to wait until he can make it better for his party to get control. All of these officials are in it for the money in their pockets and not for the Thai people. The present government has made so many deals to get power that they are just the mouth of the deputy PM, who pulls all of the strings.

If the Reds want political reform they should go through the correct channels.

Please remove these red shirts so people can get back to their normal lives.

"By any means necessary"

are we to presume that these individuals were just shot by the authorities for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Jesus, that's more than 3. What a load of rubbish that army guy said about only using live ammunition 'if in fear for their lives' etc. they are firing indiscriminately, I hope Abhisit and the muppet Suthep (largely responsible for this mass murder of civilians) face justice one day, and I don't mean by god !

I doubt they'd just popped out to buy a packet of cigs!

Nevertheless the picture we see on this thread is shocking.

All this nonsense could and should have been stopped by now. All they had to do is secure the area.

Sheer incompetence.

Yes, that's 'all'. How might you suggest they secure the area without and violence erupting? These damned reds came to Bangkok looking for one thing - a bloody fight and, very unfortunately, that is exactly what they have got on their hands. They had a deal, they should have taken it and gone home, taking those poor innocent people with them. Any ensuing violence is 100% of their will and their making.

And who might you be to declare what the cause of this photo was?! God almighty himself? You're nothing more than an arrogant, brainwashed fool like the rest and are a perfect example of how lies by the red t-shirts are perpetuated. Now go climb back behind the rotting tires and pointy sticks where you belong.

Holding the city hostage for 2 months is just idiotic.

You're right.

But well, what should they do to make things change?

Having elections does not seem to work.

Or maybe things should not change in Thailand.

And I'm all for the status quo, good for business.

Like in any democratic society, they should wait until the

current ruling party calls for an election, then use their brains

to select a candidate they like and vote for her/him

If they were to stop selling ther votes and choose a candidate

that wold help them in the long run instead of just thinking

about who pays them now, they would be better off in the long run

By the way, what is wrong with a country having poor people, middle

class people and then rich people. This is the way most countries are.

It is not something that will ever change, not here, not anywhere

Over one month ago the red leadership showed that this is what they wanted.

One key difference is that their numbers did not match over-inflated expectations.

Arisman organised, Khattiya provided the backup muscle and Thaksin paid the bills.

Some of the red leaders were on the edge of an agreement later in the day.

Thaksin made sure that it did not happen.

The red leaders had forgotten to bring their calendar.

The one with the timetable for Thaksin to secure the army leadership positions.

So back to square one.

Just in case anybody has forgotten here is Arisman's wish and Thaksin's square one.

The forum red apologists have nothing to say about this.

Nothing at all.

The person was carrying a bazooka and got shot. Notice the drag-marks, the friends dragged the terrorist away, took the bazooka and left.

(See how easy it is to make up trash from a pic...)

There is a guy dead on the footpath... there is nothing to say how he died and who killed him and what side he belongs to.

Any weapon he might have had could have been taken from the scene... You never know what he was doing when he got shot..

And yes there is a just reason for killing him, and that would be in the situation where he might have been trying to kill the other person... Kill or be killed... quite simple.

I'll tell you what i cant find a reason for... and that is mob of thugs roaming around breaking the law. I dont understand how some of you posters think its ok for those protestors to do what they are doing...

If they really only wanted peacefull protests, they would open up the area and protest on the footpaths... you cant break the law, especially this blatently, and expect everyone to be happy with what your doing...

And yes im an 'armchair farang'... This is an EXPAT forum on the internet.... I can only assume that your another Thai person telling me that Farang cant have an opinion... its a Farang forum <deleted>... this is where we come to talk about our opinions... If you dont like it, dont come here...

<<"The current situation is almost full civil war," said Jatuporn Prompan>> the first report says.

Typical idiotic hyperbole. It's a confined conflict in central Bangkok.

Well some news reports have quoted the Government as saying there are 'mobs' in '26 provinces' - I believe. Not much is heard about that - a mob might just be a dozen people with a banner. Or actually things might be more serious.

It will also be interesting to see whether Newin's 'mob' continue to back the Democrats.

maybe the focus should be at removing the red shirt leaders. take away the leadership that is fueling this fire. I guess they are not going to turn themselves in like they said. I certainly hope the charges that are racking up are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, including denying bail for fear of being a flight risk. enough is enough. Condolences to the families of those that needlessly have taken part of this cowardly fueled farce.

There are a variety of outstanding charges against most of the Red Shirt Leaders, varying from terrorism to causing public unrest. The Government has said quite emphatically, once the protest is over/dispersed these people will be arrested and tried on the charges. There will be no amnesty. This means the Red Shirt Leaders do not have an exit strategy and it would appear they are not prepared to face the consequences of their actions. I strongly believe this is why the Red Shirt Leaders are not prepared to disperse the rally and are prepared to sacrifice the lives of the poor and the innocent (whether they be fellow Red Shirts of the young Soldiers) to save their own necks. The solution is to arrange a sudden influx of Thai Citizens to Montenegro and give them citizenship? :)

true pad are a bunch of ahols but their outrage only lasted 8 days; they got a court decision on their side and we can argue about if that decision was because based on yellow shirt intimidation until the cows come home but 8 days it was, this is 2 months AND the PM put forward a good plan for early elections that was backed by even the red shirt leaders themselves, plus every academic and civic group, but NO the red shirts had to insist on humiliating the government with the deputy pm be arrested non-sence and that why we are where we are today, because they kept moving the goalpost, not to mention these constant m79 attacks all over the place.. say what you will about the yellow shirts but they did not use grenade murders on innocent police just trying to keep the peace, not to mention the other civilians murdered..the redshirts really blew it with the m79 outrage.. if their going to have their own 'guards' and then these m79 killers are killing people and then slipping back into the protest zone and then the 'guards' fail to arrest them..then they can't be surprised if people assume that the m79 killers are the guards.. the red shirts have lost so much sympathy because they can't control the extremists inside their group.. enough is enough and it's time to accept the PMs novemver election date and end the mayham .. the red shirts can't win now, they can only make a bad situation worse.

The reds come to Bangkok. They occupy a large business district, destroying all normal activities.

Business and public institutions close, people are out of work.

They mix armed attackers with their own unarmed people, well knowing that it will cause death, victims of which then can be paraded for propaganda.

They throw bombs among peaceful protesters in Sala Daeng and soldiers who do not move. They block public traffic and raid a hospital.

Until now I saw nothing being done to stop them.

A date for elections was negotiated and offered. Not good enough. They keep their destructive presence.

Night after night I can hear the speakers, and roads I used to use are blocked. I can't even go home from work without explaining to soldiers that I live inside the closed area.

Originally I disagreed in the way Thaksin was removed, but what a man he was, in hard competition he was still the worst Thai PM in present time, both from a human rights and corruption point of view. He is now a convicted criminal.

I have been in Redland many times, at least 20. The people there are kind and nice but totally brainwashed from 24-hour one-sides speakers, and have no option to access information from elsewhere.

Enough is enough. Remove them as peacefully as possible, but remove them.
