Exactly true. Trained killers kill. Which is why the military should never have been brought into a civil disobedience conflict that was very peaceful before they arrived. The military is just doing their job - killing; it is not their fault. The blame rests with the poor decisions of Abhisit, a very weak leader indeed.

How exactly is illegally seizing billions of dollars in public and private property peaceful?

How exactly is putting 60K+ people out of work illegally peaceful?

How exactly is raiding a hospital peaceful?

How exactly is raiding the government house and forcing MPs to runaway in terror peaceful?

How exactly is raiding a TV station peaceful?

How exactly is arming oneself and building gas soaked barricades to prevent enforcement of laws peaceful?

I can go on and on without even mentioning all the bombings that came to town with the reds but I already know that you will not back up your untruthful statement where you not only say they were peaceful but VERY PEACEFUL.

The only thing that slowed them down was when the Gov't showed it wouldn't tolerate them from marching or intimidating others anywhere else illegally.

thanks for some food for thought for the likes of redparrot and other duped members. they were told nicely to leave time and time again. you can lead a buffalo to water, but you can't make it drink

Saw a new report on Thai TV where they were showing a group of totally inept reds throwing moltov cocktails which must have been filled with water because none of them ignited, and they were targetting the middle of an empty road. Why are they risking their lives to do such stupid things. Stay away from the soldiers, put down your weapons, no one has to die.

I saw this too ... my first thought was to wonder what the road did to them to make them mad. Then I thought maybe they were practicing but then my senses came to me and I realized they simply must be on drugs.

Have you seen the video of the ones in their underwear yet?

Haha!  :)

Yap, many of these stooges are  hopped up on ya-baa and/or sloshed on Sang Som or even worse/cheaper hooch!

These are the 'rent a thugs' you need , apparently, if you're seeking so-called "peaceful" so-called "Democracy"! (also, of course, if you need to get a corrupt criminal despot back in power really really fast, before a military reshuffle!)

MCOT: Red Shirt leaders: Ready to resume talks with government provided army stops security operation; wants UN to mediate

stopping security operations would allow resupply and reinforcement.

un mediation would imply negotiation between equals.

Is there a point in there somewhere?

Stop making silly excuses. Time for some real leaders take over to stop this insanity and think about the people they are klilling.

Saying we can't stop now is stupid. Can't anyone see the need to think outside the box?

You must be talking about Thaksin, Arisman, Nuttawut, Seh Daeng, Weng, Veera and Jautporn. They have the power to end this. Well, Thaksin does anyway.

Who was it that stated emphatically, "The UN is not my father"

Could that have been the guiding force behind the "help, we need the UN to save our skins!" Reds?

Stranger than fiction.

People want fair elections, and you laugh.

People want justice and you laugh.

People get killed by Thai army snipers by the dozens and you laugh.

The way this thing here at Thaivisa is run is indeed shameful.

If the people ever do win power in Thailand, they should look into what went on in the media.

That was a party political broadcast on behalf of the Militant Muesli Party.

Just a bunch of ill-mannered idiots on TV :D

First you guys quote indefinitely and ain't afraid to sub-quote the sub-quote, just as of we have not read the previous message.

And Oh, the "sniper" video repeated ad nausea, thank you very much for that, one is not enough I guess.

And last but not least the Neanderthaler comments by many venerateded BM's.

Be assured y'all have my appreciation :)

For a very long time now very few people on the red side has seemed particularly interested in Thaksin

My theory is that somebody on the Red side popped Seh Daeng, simply because he wouldn't stop banging on about Thaksin and his latest instructions.

Could very well be true.

Before he was shut he had a quarrel whit the read leaders threatend to take over the leadership of the reds.

on Thai TV, tomorrow and Tuesday ( May 17 and 18 ) are HOLIDAY, off from work !!

quick calrify : in BANGKOK only !!

I saw the announcement too on TV. Sucks, I do international work with the government. No pay, like for many others. Just got the word from a gov't official after getting off the phone too. shut down Mon and Tue

Will that then include the new Immigration office in Chaengwattana?

in the usual Thai practice here - the banks and the government offices will be closed :-(

I was trapped in a similar event for a re-entry permit before departure, the immigration was closed. hope you are not in a critical situation !

Flying out next monday, coming back end of July. Visa expires in June. So I need to extend and get a re-entry permit.

THANKS!

Took me a minute to orientate myself on the map but finally figured it out. Looks like they are a ways away. Any update on where they were going or what they were up to? At the start of this they (allegedly) bombed a massage building that was owned by an MP's family member.

excellent!! i'm so glad you agree with me.

time to stop this insanity........end the protest.

think about the people they are killing.......let the women and children go home, stop attacking the soldiers.

yes, let's stop now.....yes, we can!!!

Does the use of white space in your post imply your power. Let me see if I understand you. Your idea on how to resolve a dispute between two parties is for them to allow you to dictate what they must do?

Just exactly how does that reach an agreement? Resolving a dispute usually involves reaching some kind of agreement between the disputing parties. Oh! That is except in a dictatorship.

Are you implying that you want to be the dictator?

Was wondering how many of the brave red leaders are still getting up on the stage.

Seems Nutthaaut and Jutaporn are making the statements now, where is motormouth Arisman and the others? Expect Kwanchai is long gone he showed on the 28th that he would run at the sound of the first loud fart.

Someone has shown by getting Sae Daeng that they are capable of taking out any of them at will, must have been a real shock for them.

If true then I bet it is not the PM agreeing to this. There continues to be those in the ranks who want to be the hero by ending this and each time they shoot themselves in the foot because the reds show they cannot be trusted. There is NOTHING left to negotiate, they simply need to vacate the area.

Edit: Even under curfew the authorities can arrange for reds to vacate the area through one of the exits to board buses or be taken to a staging area to later be escorted to their vehicles when timing permits.

and for some, they've even arranged accommodation for the next 6 months, at least! :)

Oooh, was it the same man who said

"Democracy is not my ultimate goal"

“I regret the loss of lives in a way that should not have happened, due to suffocation. I will order a committee to be set up to investigate the situation,”

“The government definitely has to extend the state of emergency, ... The situation requires us to do so.”

“If the incidents have spilled over to other areas, it is possible to use martial law to solve problems in such areas. This has nothing to do with the government, ... could do it on their own.”

“The protesters are exerting mob rule over the rule of law, which I can't accept.”

“I am ready to sign the decree if the situation becomes violent.”

"I will not resign because my resignation will not resolve anything.”

“There may be someone wanting to incite the situation.”

“Be patient until July 2nd. When Mars leaves, the situation will improve.”

“Today is not my day.”

"It's hip to be square"

(A prize for anyone who spots the one he didn't really say, all the others are true quotes).

The UK Daily Mail today described it as a one-sided battle, and implied the government/troops are basicaly soley responsible for the death-toll, with the protesters being 'un-armed'. F'ing idiots....

I recall many deals and promises and then again many retractions. That why I specifically suggested that REAL leaders take over to resolve the dispute. It's hard to trust anyone who makes promises only to retract them a few hours later. Sort of like reading posts here on TV.

CRES financial blacklist include Thaksin, family members, relatives and some pro-Thaksin politicians as well as Seh Daeng. /via @tulsathit

now know why they left yesterday, probably tipped off

This should have been done months ago especially on Thaksin , now they should freeze all his and the familys overseas accounts and thet will slow him down , as for the leaders freeze all there assets have them put on terrorist watch lists in

case they escape.

See how far these reds go with out funding . :)

I am not for amnesty but I would agree (if I had any power beyond posting) that they should not arrest ANYONE willing to leave the area nor should they check IDs as a tonight only type of deal. You can always round up these guys later. Plus you could see just how red police are by showing wanted pictures and giving rewards for tips that would be kept confidential and would also be available to the police in Issan.

Please use your head. If soldiers were opening up on the reds with M16s ... you would see a lot more dead than 24 ... and aren't a couple of the dead now being reported to be soldiers?

If it turns out that any of them died to injuries sustained from slingshots I will instantly retract my previous statement. Naturally, all armed enemy combatants are fair play in my book. I just feel I could actually do more damage with my bare hands than with one of the most primitive projectile weapons on the planet so I would not consider it any more armed than, say, someone wielding a stick. Granted that walking around a live fire zone while swinging a stick around isn't the smartest idea either. You certainly won't catch me doing that.

I know what you're trying to say, that it is unfair. But the whole theme of military training is to be unfair; to have better weapons, tactics, training and intelligence, and how to use them to your advantage. This isn't a game of cards, it's bet your life.

Old, old saying: don't bring a knife to a gunfight; or a slingshot, or a stick. Add another "People willing to die, die just as easy" (apologies to Stormin' Norman)

Exactly true. Trained killers kill. Which is why the military should never have been brought into a civil disobedience conflict that was very peaceful before they arrived. The military is just doing their job - killing; it is not their fault. The blame rests with the poor decisions of Abhisit, a very weak leader indeed.

No ... the blame rests with the fact that the reds are armed and some of them HEAVILY armed. Peaceful protesters wouldn't have needed much of anything. They would have stayed at PanFa and screamed for months. Then again with the level of violent speech from their leaders something was bound to happen eventually. I would like to think that the police could have stopped them from fire bombing everything the way that Arisaman said they would BEFORE they even came to BKK, but it would have probably taken the military even in that situation!
