earthpig
There are enough morons to talk about here involved with this struggle to bring in "W" who is seen as an incredibly dangerous idiot by most of the world. if it is really the case that you feel we shoudnt comment on W here then why, pray tell, do you feel compelled to comment, in the very same sentance, on W? or are logic and consistency not necessary ingredients to discussion in your modest opinion? rametindallas
Why do so many posters see no problems in the army firing live rounds at protesters building barricades and running into the open with makeshift weapons such as slingshots and rocks? Prime Minister Aphisit said that the army would conduct itself according to international standards. The international standard in this situation is the UN Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials, which requires an imminent threat to life to be present before lethal force is used. Observers abroad are commenting on the disproportionate violence. Clearly the majority of TV posters do not like the stance taken by the BBC, CNN, etc. I don't expect that they will be happy either to see the top item on the Human Rights Watch homepage.http://www.hrw.org/en/home One does not need to support Thaksin or the wider red shirt cause to know that shooting people like this is wrong. The reds on the stage have been calling it and calling for WAR. In war, people use weapons to WIN. With choice being the reds or the govt., I want the govt. to win. jcbangkok
What the reds want is something they don't even know. They say they want democracy but all their actions are ant-democratic They say they want fairness but break laws that are not just specific to Thailand but almost any nation. They say they want justice but want to be held unaccountable for the lawlessness. They say they are peaceful but attack authorities They say they are law abiding but have stolen billions of dollars in public and private property They say they care about Thailand but have tremendously hurt Thailand and its people They say what the Yellows did was wrong but they do much worse The list goes on and on and on .... The bottom line is a democracy cannot function if society gives into any demands of a lawless mob. And no democracy can exist if it is incapable or unwilling to enforce the laws. What we see happening on the streets now is democracy in action ... sad but true. Almost every nation that wants peace and democracy have had to fight evil doers such as those having taken over the streets of BKK.
thepodest
Why would the red shirts shoot an RPG at an hotel ? The shooting of journalists , reporters and foreigners is a government specialty check the facts If the red had RPGs they would retaliate against those shooting them not against an hotel populated by farangs . The Reds shot at the hotel since there was rumors that soldiers was there. Rumors spread quickly in yaabaa-heads. And you both manage to deny and defend the action in one post...congratulations for officially supporting terrorism. Want a medal? The Reds also raid the Chula Hospital because they "thought" soldiers were in there.
whybother
First they are not terrorists Second they dont have machine guns . Third if they had machine guns you would see tens of soldiers killed Please dont alter the truth . Thank you PS : Or if they have machine guns they dont use them , which comes to the same as not having them The threat of violence is basically the same as violence. But the facts are 1) They have high powered rifles 2) They are shooting at the army.

toptuan
Why no water cannons? There is enough dirty water in the khlongs of Bangkok. Instead of bullets. It's what civilized countries do. Why do you only see one side so completely? In CIVILISED countries the protestors protest PEACEFULLY or at least do not use grenades and guns on people. If they did that in a civilised country like the States they military or police would immediately take them out with lethal force. YOU KNOW THIS so stop playing. in civilised country the police is used not the army . Oops! 1964 Watts Riot, L.A., Calif.? 1972 Kent State University? 1969 Berkeley, California? (I saw the army in person on that day!) The army national guard in the States is routinely called out to help quell civil disturbances. Maybe your more serious mistake is your use of "civilised?" You need to revise at least one of your pronouncements. Edited May 17, 2010 by toptuan
neverdie
right or wrongNo one takes you serious here until you have at least 6 months membership under your belt that's about 50-100 posts That's an awful lot of posting. in 6 years I haven't got that many. Personally, I think that anyone that spends a lot of their time posting on internet forums(i.e 5 a day or more) needs some kind of counseling. Not counting Admin. and Mods. I wonder how long a lot of you posters have been in Thailand and know the value(or lack of) of life. How many really know the way that Thai politics works. I find it depressing to read all these opinions by people who haven't really a clue about any of it. As you are returning to my post I will answer Member since 2005 posting nearly 700 why TV, because I get more information than reading the Bangkok posting every morning I first came to Thailand in 2004 and worked here for 4 years teaching and learning Thai culture as part of my job Have a thai wife and lived in Issan for 2 years also have a child that can talk in both English and thai My wifes best friend teaches Political Science in University I am a devote Buddhist I am now waiting for you reasons why you feel you are better at understanding Thailand than I do Ozzie, I wouldnt get too excited by a post like this. Its one of those typical ones where some person announces out loud what 'they do' and anyone that doesnt comply with this way of life needs professional help. Its different courses for different horses, up to him, whatever floats his boat. Imagine how boring it would be if everyone did exactly the same as this guy. In his world 5 posts per day is the mark where you tip over the edge from sane to insanity, up to him. Perhaps he spends 20 minutes a day sitting in front of the mirror blowing raspberries at himself, whereas others only spent 5 minutes. Anyway, it a nutshell, everyones entitled to their own opinion. I don't care about what he thinks, afterall hes just a somebody @ the end of the optical fibre cord & probably not what he says either

Unfortunately, killers like just like normal people... unless you actually see them killing that is! The Reds are being inundated with pictures of Red victims and soldiers with guns, but unless they are on the front lines themselves, they probably aren't aware of the militants on their own side. However teaching is 5% and learning 95%. Suggest in your court... Your choice of quantity and quality of posts up to you. Seeking of counselling is also a personal thing, but I would humbly suggest you seek.
