Where Are They Now?

Where are all the chicken littles who were claiming the dollar and pound were tanking?

1 UK pound sterling = 74.5 Thai baht (darn near constant over the last year)

1 US dollar = 40.5 Thai baht (same, almost constant)

1 US dollar = 0.82 Euro (again about the same as last year)

Just curious ...

1 Cdn $ = 32.606 baht. Been holding around that mark for quite awhile now.

In '98 (after the big hiccup with the Asian flu), the baht lost a lot, then gained it back (compared to Cdn currency).

12 Jan 98 - 1 Cdn $ = 39.15 baht.

11 months later:

Dec 98 - 1 Cdn $ - 23.27 baht ! Huge gain in the value of the baht.

Since then, it has dropped against the Cdn $, more because the Cdn $ has increased in value (finally).

Certainly not a wise move to be short sterling, long baht.
