Could someone assist me with a direct translation of 'xx letter of the alphabet' from English into Thai, e.g. 1st letter of the alphabet, 2nd letter of the alphabet and so on...?

The translation apps available, e.g. Thai Translator, Google Translate give varying answers of อักษรตัวแรกของตัวอักษร, or อักษรตัวแรกของตัวอักษร (respectively). Thai2English gives อักษร ตัว แรก ของ ตัวอักษร also.

I'm a bit confused and would appreciate some assistance.

You will never get a 100% match, for the simple reason there are sounds in the Thai language that have no equivalent in English.

The Thai word for snake, งู, is a prime example.

The word for a bowl, จาน, is it a jor jaan or chor chaan.

The verb go, ไป, is it bai, pai or bpai, again no exact English sound.

Those are just a few quick examples off the top of my head.

I am not an academic, no doubt the linguistic experts will give more precise answers.

Also the first letter of the English alphabet a, is a vowel in Thai.

The first letter of the Thai alphabet is ไก่, which is the equivalent to the English g.

If you want a letter by letter translation of English to Thai the best I can give is an approximation for all 44 consonants, even then there would be debate.

A/a - พยัญชนะและสระตัวแรกในภาษาอังกฤษ - The first vowel and letter of the English alphabet.

A/a - อักษรตัวแรกในภาษาอังกฤษ - The first letter of the English alphabet.

C/c - พยัญชนะอังกฤษตัวที่3 - The 3rd letter of the English alphabet.

C/c - อักษรตัวที่ 3 ในภาษาอังกฤษ - The 3rd letter of the English alphabet. [my translations]

From Thai Wikipedia:

Thanks rgs2001uk and katana. Some things are just not meant to be easy are they ? It's no problem just curious as to the correct way - if, of course, there is a correct way - of expressing that term.

Guess I'll stick to numbering 1, 2, 3...
