Can you see the video files in the gallery app?

I use the mVideoPlayer app to play video, works great.

I have also started playing with the Nexus One 3D gallery on my Desire which also allows for viewing videos.

The biggest gripe I have with it is that its only an app and not a widget, so does not allow for viewing from the homepage.

Once inside its actually much nicer than the stock gallery and makes scrolling through lots of pics much easier, but still, the widget thing is pretty important for me, so the HTC widget still has its place on my homescreen.. but if anyone can find a widget for the 3d gallery I'd be all over it.

Neither Gallery nor mVideoPlayer are standard installed on my HTC Desire. I don't need a player per se, I am just curious about what plays the movies as something does but I can't find a name for it. I just have to go through the Astro Filemanager to find the movie, then click on it and it plays. During playback I have tried clicking "menu" but nothing comes up. It's like the phone has a movie player program but no link to start it other than through an associated movie file.

When i click to play a movie in the gallery app, I get a choice of a default program. Two I recognise as being apps I installed (Gallery & mVideoplayer) the third is called View Video, which i assume is the stock video player.

I just set my router to port forward SSH to my home NAS box. Now I can SFTP into the NAS remotely from my phone using the Astro file explorer and send/retrieve files. Cool!!!!

Unfortunately Astro doesn't support key-based authentication, but I guess you can't have everything.

There's an app called homelink which does much the same thing, although its more like Orb in its application. You can stream music from your PC (even Itunes) to your phone over the air. Edge is a bit slow mind you.

Regarding doubletwist, it seems when the Android part is installed it will force the phone into "disk sharing" mode when you plug in the USB cord to charge it from a PC. Noticed this problem myself and was wondering why the Desire suddenly started behaving like that. More details at Problem with 'Charge Only' when connecting to pc - xda-developers

Have a look at Launcher Pro (Free) to tart up your home screen - big improvement for my Samsung Galaxy. There are a few that do a similar job but I liked this the best.

Couple of addictive free games, less than 10 seconds to learn to play, so for people who aren't hard core gamers:

Abduction - Help the cow rescue her family that have been abducted by aliens. No touch required just play using the accelerometer

Air Control - Land the planes and avoid them crashing into one another. Very simple and great time killer.

BTW how do you play video on the Desire? I've found I can go through Astro filemanager, find the file and play it, but there must be an app somewhere as well?

Was looking for something that would play my home recorded .avi files and came across this > Wuzhenuah_player. Plays a large number of different formats.

Just discovered Twonky Mobile.

If you have a Twonky media server in your house (I've got one on my NAS box), your phone will discover it an you can browse/stream its media from your phone. You can also stream media from your phone to any DNLA device on the network, eg. I can play music from the phone on the home theater over the wireless.

Android Apps 2.5 Times Pricier Than iPhone Apps

Have an Android device? If so, you're paying a lot more for apps than your friends with an iPhone.

The top paid apps in Google's Android Market are priced "dramatically higher," than those in Apple's App Store, according to a new survey from market research firm Canalys. How much more? Android apps actually cost 2.5 times more, on average, than apps for the iPhone, Canalys said.

"In the U.S., to purchase the top 100 paid-for apps in the Android Market would cost $374.37 — an average of $3.74 per app," the company said in a statement. "The top 100 iPhone apps would cost $147.00, or $1.47 on average per app."

The same was true for users in Germany, India, Singapore, and the U.K. And, the gap is even wider for top 20 apps, which are priced, on average, $1.04 for iPhone users and a whopping $4.09 for those with an Android.

Canalys attributed the price disparity to the different retail environments fostered by Apple and Google. In Apple's store, price competitiveness is key and in-app purchases, which generate revenue beyond the initial app payment, are becoming increasingly accepted. Meanwhile, fewer people are willing to pay for apps in the Android Market, so developers have to charge more for their apps to make money.

"Selling more apps at higher prices is the Holy Grail for developers, but achieving big volumes of paid apps on Android is no small challenge," Rachel Lashford, Canalys' managing director for mobile, said in a statement. "More aggressive price competition around Android apps would help to encourage more consumers to make their first app purchases, drive greater download volumes, and ultimately be good for the vibrancy of the app ecosystem."

The survey also showed that iPhone and Android users have different interests when it comes to apps. In the U.S., just 19 apps made their way onto the top 100 paid lists for both stores.

Top apps are also pricier in the Android Market than they are in the Amazon AppStore, according to a separate report released this week by mobile analytics firm Distimo.

I had a Thai friend take a look at it and he was impressed with the translation accuracy. That's the first application I have paid for.

theres an app called ADFREE and it is an adblocker for any annoying ads that might be in some of your other apps

it can auto download the definitions for ads to block daily so if the advertisers change their ads ,AdFREE will have them

blocked again ASAP

I actually tried several of the Ad Blockers. I don't recall the names. One of them was a trial version that did block the ads but then the dictionary got smart and put in a notice that the ads can be eliminated by buying the application. That notice obstructed the view much worse than the ads.
