Haven't heard anything about Siam Paragon, I know there was a fire there but haven't heard anything else since... then I came across this on wikipedia.

Destruction in 2010

On the night of May 20, 2010, the Paragon building and several adjacent structures, including Dicovery Center and Central World, were virtually destroyed by fire. On May 21, some walls still stand but early reports indicate a total loss of the building and its contents. Reports of the fate of the expensive automobiles on display and of the Ocean World aquarium water life, as well as other aspects of the property remain undetermined. The iMax theater was totally gutted, but the huge screen itself remains standing with only minor smoke stains. The fire is widely reported in Thai and international media to be the work of hard-core protesters following the collapse of the "Red Shirts" (a protest group, UDD) two-month long seige of the centeral area of Bangkok, seeking the resignation of the current Prime Minister and the disolving of the current Parliment. The Paragon was fully closed and locked up at the time of the fire in anticipation of any destructive acts of the of the protesters.

It won't let me post a URL but go to wikipedia and do a search for Siam Paragon

Does anyone have any news on this??

This is the first I've heard of this. Central World and Siam Theater were destroyed. I was under the impression Paragon was essentially untouched.

That's what I thought too, although I was told today that the basement was burnt out. Just surprised that there has been no mention of it at all except on Wikipedia!

If the basement would have been burnt out then Ocean World would be gone, my friends all work there and they are all on call to go back this Monday.

I saw pictures of "light" damage on the ground floor.

But I don't know if that were the final pics.

It's wikipedia, anyone can write anything, although I'm not sure why someone would write this. Looking up their ip address from the history page it was someone in Bangkok. Am sure someone will change it back

Its used in the same section as Central World, so i guess paragon was a mistake.

I heard there was a fire, but not as much as central world-hopefully the fishes didnt die.

Yeah, I am sure the kind reds carried enough fishy food to keep them happy.

Central World is not adjacent to Paragon. In fact, Siam Discovery is not directly adjacent either. Only Siam Center is. It seems whoever wrote this wiki entry was unaware of these rather simple facts, or perhaps do not understand the meaning of the word adjacent.

I read the Panthip and Platinum Fashion Mall are re-opening, how difficult is it to get there now, does anyone know?

I expect a lot of the fish resorted to eating each other.

Both the BTS and San Saeb Canal are open on Monday, so should be no problem at all.

Most likely Thaksin had ordered the burning of Siam Paragon, but his terrorists didn't get around to it, but his PR team was more efficient, and changed the wikipedia entry to read their master's intentions, without checking on the follow through of the scumbag arsonists. :)
