Hmnnn....So far I read about a Brit, a Dutchman and an Aussie apprehended. I'm starting to wonder why the Yanks aren't representin'

Because they elect their prize idiots into the White House? :)

Yes they do elect idiots like GW and then morons like Blair and Howard follow the moron into Iraq.

AND--who elected them?

It is only a matter of time before a Yank goes nuts and joins his brothers in jail for the cause.

The three stooges Dubya, Blair and Howard are history (Brown too)...it's now Obama, Cameron/Clegg, Rudd so let's get up to date with these things.

Anyone know the name of the place this guy Purcell taught English on no passport and/or no work visa? I'd like to see the place that hired and paid him under such circumstances get called to book too, as if it would happen, and whether he propagandized in the classroom too.

The government is getting good mileage for itself out of this as the mass of Thais know all farang are stupid and overbearing, nosy, and deserve to be put in our place. All the same, as there isn't yet any evidence of farang speaking out in support of the government, the authorities need to make the point to all falhang that open support of the reds in their insurrection has consequences. I notice properly credentialed and professional farang are not involved in this (at least so far) and are highly unlikely to be.

Last month I spent a week at a hotel at Ratchaprasong surrounded by Reds, kept my nose clean and was left alone. The Reds controlled my comings and goings into and out of the area (read: extorted money) but otherwise let me be. I stayed away from the stage, could hear the speakers during my movements outside but never heard a farang voice. I did meet a wandering groupie farang Aussie woman in a red dress, a busty beefy broad who said she was 38 which looked about right and who was smiling and talking with the redshirts on the sidewalks....a harmless grinning camp follower and definitely dizzy.

Given that it's the Australian Embassy that's aiding Purcell and not the Embassy of Ireland, the guy is Aussie period. As Australia is a Commonwealth Country of the UK, not a sovereign entity, I notice the UK Embassy is laying low in all of this (at least publicly).

The beat goes on.

The beat goes on.

I am an Australian, who has lived in Thailand for over 10 years, and I am embarrased by this clown. Firstly to call himself a Australian Special forces soldier when he was not, is a insult to us all who have served and to get involved in the protest, when he has no idea what he is talking about is also a slap in the face. I hope they make an example of this fool, all country's have them I guess

I find it amazing how easy it is for some people to wish someone to spend time in the "Thai Clinker" or "two years in Bangkok Hilton." This man obviously made the wrong decision to speak on the stage. I was asked to speak on the stage as well. I knew better. I am not a Red supporter or a Yellow supporter because I know that Thai politics are not my concern nor should they be. I would talk to both sides with an open mind and not judge. Thailand is not my country so I had no right to judge.

I would never wish for someone to endure the pain and suffering he is sure to be going through for only speaking on a stage. Anyone with a small amount of common sense would know that he had very little to do with the end results. Deported? Yes! Most definitely! Time is prison. Too much. It is like killing a spider with a shotgun. Deportation would get the message across to foreigners not to interfere.

If he was a thai national he would be liable to at least 2 years imprisonment for refusing to leave the rally site, plus extra charges for inciting violence. Being a farang he actually broke more laws regarding foreigner interference. Why then would he not be sent to prison? Is this some form of racism?

The population of the Land Down Under is 20m so it sounds to me you're referring to all Aussies, as if they were the equivalent of the settlers of the Americas North and South or those of NZ. There's a lot of demographic diversity these days in the "Lucky Country" (irony noted intended or not) since the "Whites Only" official policy was concluded in the mid 1960's and subsequent to Pauline Hanson's racist party being quashed by a convergence of the voters, prosecutors who pursued money illegalities and concern in Canberra over the country's image in the far West, although the Conservative-Nationalist government of John Howard was at the time roundly criticized by Asians and the West as being rather slow - really slow - in taking something of a stand to openly state Hanson and her gang were reactionaries and hardly representative of most Aussies.

Truth is of the several hundred Aussies I've met during my time abroad, there are only...well, perhaps it's better to say nothing at all.

Oz population currently est. @ 22.5 million. But yes, millions of migrants. The city with the 2nd largest number of Greeks was Melbourne, now slipped to 3rd behind Heraklion.

I can trace my ancestry, both sides of the family, back to transported convicts - and quite proud of it. I have also have spent time in prison, on a voluntary basis rather than pay fines. It is moronic punishment mostly inflicted on Morons (not to be confused with Morans, though there are many similarities) Mr Purcell should fit in well.

Again I have no idea what SeanMoran is trying to say? "That stuff begins in places like this" Love your fellow man. What? Where? Honestly mate I'm not having a go at you I really don't understand.

To assist in your understanding you might care to assume that he has just come back from the pub . BTW Google for Sean Moran; that might help too. :)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...ire/8420902.stm ?

A man has died after he was found unconscious next to a park bench in Nottingham.

Police said tests are being carried out to find out how Sean Moran, 24, of Aspley, died, but they are not treating his death as suspicious.

he was NOT a Trained Sniper. For a stArt he would not have the brains to be a professionally trained sniper. The <deleted> is a Military Wannabe. Australia is full of them. Go and drink in any bar in the Kingdom where Aussies gather, you'll meet one. Thailand seems to be a magnet for them.

(BTW I am ex Oz Military)

Check 'em out.

http://www.anzmi.net/

Perhaps you have forgotten to read the news. The government say that he is a sniper. Thai government never lie.

http://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news.php?id=255305250040

Eh, they don't say that he IS a sniper, they say that the preliminary investigation suggested, which is actually the journalists word of what the first hearing with the suspect and his ramblings in news articles suggest - i.e. his own claims. Not a fact in any stretch of the imagination.

I think you will find that Australia is a sovereign entity, You're confusing the Commonweath with the British Empire. The former is more of a club. We share the same Queen of England, but ours is HRH Queen Elizabeth, Queen of Australia....yeah I know that's a bit pathetic, but come the revolution it might be President Kylie :)

Why is it always the Aussies and Brit who come to center stage here in Thailand for being just plain stupid.

Normally it is an AMERICAN citizen who is shouting, and you remember the first farang on stage. Oh Yes, here he is http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Bangkok-Red-...id-t354498.html

An obvious Canadian. He even said "eh" and out and "abuut". :)

No worry Mr. rvdk. I'm sure they will find a Yank in the woodpile soon !

Conor David Purcell on Red Shirt stage

[newsfooter][/newsfooter]

What a wan** another know-it-all Australia representing the "western values".

Oh yeah Australia is an egalitarian society.. as long as you are white, narrow minded and a racist.

Australia is the only country to make an international incident over one of their trashy tourists stealing a bar mat.

You are the wank** if you think he is an dicky die Aussie who represents the majority of us.

Australia is very multi-cultural now and we live in harmony with all races.

The bar-mat woman got her night of fame on tv, not the applause from the citizens though.

I notice you have not bothered to fill in your profile details. Are you ashamed of your heritage or something?

Go off and finish your wank*** and refrain from commenting on something you do not understand.

Im not bashing on Aussies or anything but I got to take issue with your record on race relations with the recent attacks on Indians in Australia I wouldn't be so quick to claim it as the ideal for racial harmony. Just saying...

just for your information the police caught the people who bashed the indian doctore and they themselves were of Indian orgin, you should get the facts before you comment

Like good kon Thai, good Australians would never hurt anyone unless we ourselves are attacked, but Thailand is wise to be wary of farang, and learn from the multicultural mistakes that Australia made.

Why is it always the Aussies and Brit who come to center stage here in Thailand for being just plain stupid.

There must be definitely an answer... :)

Stupidity is a rarity amongst Aussies and Britons. That is why it is newsworthy when it happens. As for our New World cousins, it's well known as the norm. so nobody buys newspapers to read about stupid Yanks. We saw it on tv and don't need to be reminded.

I love it when this Connor idiot is being interviewed, and he says something like "I had always admired Thaksin, I thought his macro-economic policies were brilliant"..

did you get that..- his Macro-economic policies .. gee this guy must be a real pro, it's not just taksins economic policies, its his macro economic policies.. the taksin micro-economics is just so so(like becoming stinking rich by way of a corrupt sweethart deal to sell radios to the Thai police, an institution taksin had been top level in.., or maybe it was the time he scammed..oh wait by then your getting into the macro!) see its the thaksin MACRO economics that makes him such a genius..og gee it's a good thing we have Connor the ex-weekend reservist) to explain these things to us.

How's this for a macro-economic policy-before you get on a plane from Australia to Thailand, have more than $100aud in your wallet otherwise you might end up out of money and sleeping in a protest camp because you can't afford a cheap hotel.. and then becoming 'radicalized' so you can get on tv and maybe parlay that into getting some money one day like when your out of jail for violating an emergency decree..

Don't most macro economic experts make enough money so they don't have to sleep grime stained concrete with 5000 other people..

Judging from the way you keep posting this same crap over and over again, you must have grown up in the wilds of Alabama.

What are you all discussing? It does not matter where he comes from!

I think there are better boards to exchange the Brit / Aussie arguments..... :)

Of course it matters where he comes frrom. Where are you from? Mars?

Nothing wrong with some good natured banter, piss taking and oneupmanship. Lighten up and join in the fun, Christ knows things are getting serious in the world. We might all be allies fighting in Korea again before much longer.

Anyway, we still have Cricket, Rugby, World Cup Soccer, The Australian Flag, The Queen and the republic and Cold Piss to get through yet.

Speaking of his own embassy, it's a shame he didn't heed the advice from May 3rd and get the heck out of town:

But the Australian Embassy has raised doubts over Purcell's background. Investigations are reported to question his university and military experience, and that he was not a member of the Army reserves, sources told AAP.

The English language Bangkok Post, quoting an embassy source, said Purcell's behaviour and public statements were disturbing and he had been advised to return to Australia. He's actually broken quite a few Thai laws, the report said.

The Sydney Morning Herald from May 3, 2010

http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-world...00503-u3jt.html

Over the radio (MCOT 96.5) news talk show, they say he has sniper training when he was in the Army. He could be the one shooting the innocent at the temple where they found 6 dead bodies.

Great powers of Deduction......................................not!
