¡Hello to everybody!

I write you to seek for some help for a friend in Chiang Mai. She is Spanish and she works for Chiang Mai University as English Teacher. She just renewed a Non Inmigrant "B" VIsa Extension till May 2011 + Work Permit based on her job in the University. But recently a school has ofered here a better job so she wants to move. The problem is that she said already to the University that she will not continue next term as they said to her that there was no problem to keep the Visa and change the Company in her work permit.

However,in Chiang Mai Inmigration Office they have told here that as he changes the Company that is hiring here unless that in less tan 7 days she is able to present a new work permit (Which it seems it is not possible),she has to leave the country and get a new Non-inmigrant B VIsa Is that right? If she has to live the Country and present the papers from this new school in order to get the new Visa, where is the better place to go(In Chiang Mai Inmigration they have told here to go to Laos) Normally they will grant here with a Non Inmigrant B Visa for how long? Once this new Visa is expired she can get an extension in Chiang Mai Inmigration Office Is that right?

¡I appreciate a lot your help! :)

Cheers,

I have the same situation. I was offered a better job while having a contract with another school. I want to quit and take the new job and I would like to know what is the best way to continue teaching legally without leaving the country, is it possible to keep the same visa or renewing it and change the name of the employer in the work permit having all the paperwork from the new school?

Someone with experience please advise us.

Immigration is right. When you are on an extension of stay based on employment and your employment ends, you most go to the labour office and immigration the last day of your employemnt to cancel your work permit and your permisison to stay. At immigration she can get a permission to stay for 7 days or leave the country immediatly. If she applies for the 7 day extension, she either submits the paperwork for a new 1 year extension of stay (including work permit) within those 7 days or leave the country.

Normally 7 days is enough to submit all the paperwork and get a work permit for a teacher.

This might prove very difficult.

Provincial immigration departments require several days to verify the paperwork.

Pattaya (Jomtien) immigration will only accept the paperwork in the first 2 days of your 7 day extension. If you do not manage to do this, you get complications as you'd need to travel to get yourself a fresh non immigrant visa somewhere!

Not sure on Bkk immigration though.
