Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

Lung Boonmee Raluek Chat (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival and I'd like to see it - with English subtitles. Anyone know if it's showing in Bangkok? Or out on video?

It's not showing in Thailand. Indications are that there may be censorship problems again, maybe not as severe as with Khun Apichatpong's last film. It may have a limited run, maybe at House cinema. I'll be watching for a DVD release in the US later this year.

The latest: "Uncle Boonmee" will be shown from June 25 at SFX Cinema Emporium. One showtime per day at 7 p.m. with an additional one at 2 p.m. on weekends. No information about censorship so far.

Under the relatively new rating system, there should be no need for censorship on this film. It premiered at Esplanade last week without censorship.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Palme d'Or-winning Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (ลุงบุญมีระลึก ชาติ, Lung Boonmee Raleuk Chat) opened in Bangkok on Friday, June 25, in a limited, month-long release at SFX Cinema in Emporium.

It has passed censors and is rated 15+. The film is subtitled in English.

Showtimes will be nightly at 7.20pm with added Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2.30.
