Employment Agencies For Farang?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Can anyone recommend any employment agencies that could help me find a job in Bangkok that isn't teaching English?

I look at the classifieds in the Bangkok post but they mainly seem to want top execs or Thai nationals.

I am a graduate from the UK with 5 or so years professional work experience.

Any advice on how to find a job would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Well I hope you dont approach prospective employers the same way you have written your post....LOL

"I am a graduate from the UK, with 5 years professional experience".....And ??....what exactly do you do ??

Cant really advise properly if you dont give proper info

You can get them, but you will not be able to sustain any living standard that you are probably use to.Unless its just for a hobby.

And just what do you base that assumption on?

Many of us here earning far in excess of average western salaries, add to that lower living costs and a slightly more lenient tax regime, then my living standard is way above what it was in the UK.

Maybe not the majority, but 10's of thousands of expats in this position.

I know.

Just trying to find out how to get the other ones.

Yeah you are so right....lots of people here just scraping by on +$250k/year tax free + housing + car/driver etc etc.. :)

You might be suprised to know that not every expat in Thailand is an OAP living on a goverment pension or an "English" teacher making THB 25k/m.. :D

hi OP. you're not getting a lot of useful responses - perhaps because someone starts a new thread on this same topic every other week. If you have some time I would suggest scrolling back through pages of earlier threads and/or using the thaivisa search facility (top right this page). Many of these earlier threads have details of specific web sites, head-hunting companies, etc.

Irritatingly, many of the job ads in English-language web sites don't specify whether they are open to applications from non-Thai nationals. In most cases they aren't ... and if you email to ask them this then don't hold your breath waiting for a response.

... best of luck, but at the end of the day you are going to have a very tough time getting a foot in the door.

Submit your resume to the various recruitment agencies. OPUS, RSM Recruitment, Adecco, and Manpower spring to mind but there are many more. Google is your friend. But also check members listinsg at the various chambers of commerce.

Linkedin is also useful for recruitment too, many headhunters scan that site looking for prospective candidates to fill positions.

If you have a good track record of professional experience in a specific area and your salary expectations are commensurate with your experience and market levels you should find something, but you may have to give it some time. Not many firms are growing at the moment, most are employing replacements.

Good luck.

There's definitely work out there, but it's a matter of finding out where you can add value, then going there. Again it would help to know a few more details - what do you do? Do you speak Thai? What sort of salary are you looking for? As these will have a huge impact.

Where do you add value? See, Thailand as you've probably noticed has a huge army of people who will work dam_n hard for not much money, and for a bit more will work very hard and bring some useful skills too. What do you do that they can't?

Some ideas of where foreigners can add value - represent a company/product to western buyers who would be happier dealing with a westerner than with a Thai only company. Something like export sales, or a company that offers some product or service to MNC investors in Thailand.

Some incredibly specialised knowledge or skill. If you know some programming language or manufacturing process or something that literally no one in Thailand can do then you have a marketable skill here. Though one that might dry up as soon as someone else can do it.

Something that involves selling to a foreign market. I've noticed a few call centres in Bangkok that look for native English speakers to sell into the UK, Australia etc Not sure if telesales is something you would want to do but the money can be pretty good.

I wouldn't count too much on agencies. Agencies necessarily deal with the candidates that they can place easily, anything that is a bit of a square peg in a round hole is not a good use of their time, and unless you have some incredibly specialised skill then that's what you are. Submit your CV by all means, but don't count on them.

The other problem with agencies in Thailand- they get 1000s of CVs/resumes from western guys all over the world who quite fancy the idea of working and living in Thailand- i cant imagine they pay to much attention to these now when they arrive in their inboxs.

The other thing to consider regarding agencies the world over.....they will only react to a CV if one of their clients is actually looking for somebody with that skill set, in 99.9% of the cases, a CV sent to an agency will end up in a data base,

Hope you dont think agencies actively market somebody when they receive a CV ?

Very few clients in Thailand will specify an expat for a position, it does happen in the oil and gas business here from time to time

True. I just dont think they even bother to input most CVs into their databases- if they have a post, i imagine they advertise it and get a huge response so no need for the database in a situation like thailand where there are floods of job seekers.
