What Visa Should I Get?

Featured Replies

I am flying into Bangkok on 6th July and leaving 10th August (35 days). I will be spending around half of the five weeks in Cambodia but as I will book travel when I get to Thailand, I have no proof that I'll be leaving the country. As I'm a UK citizen, I get 30 days in Thailand free so don't really want to pay £25 for a 60 day tourist visa.

What's the best thing for me to do? Should I just turn up at the airport? Or do I have to shell out £25 even though I won't be in Thailand for more than 3 weeks? Someone help me please.....

You are going to have airline problems. They won't carry you because you are unable to see you leaving Thailand within 30 days. Avoid the grief. Get a tourist visa.

Or just stay home and avoid any grief. Can use those 25 pounds for a few brews. :o

If you are not going to be in thailand longer than 30 days you can get a transit visa at the airport for free when you land. I have never had a to prove that i am in fact leaving again. You should be ok if you tell them your ongoing to Cambodia and if you have return flight to Uk on the !0th August then they really should not be any problem at all.

He may have other thoughts if he ends up having to pay for a non refundable ticket with confirmed reservations at the airport in the UK before they let him board the aircraft (as he is worried about 25 pounds he may not even be able to buy). The rule is you must have onward transport to receive the 30 day entry and airlines have been known to be very strict.

In theory your correct but have you ever ben asked to prove your onward destination in Thailand? He has a return ticket for the 10th. I have never been asked to show proof of onwards by airline or immigration, ever. I have often flown out here on a single ticket, no return flight booked, no onward destination, just heading to Thailand for 6 months, never had a problem. Maybe i have just been lucky? The other thing i used to do on several trips was land in Thailand get the free 30 days, then head to Loas or Malasia and get a cheaper visa there. Again, never had a problem personaly. Hmm maybe start a thread on this. Who has Who hasn't.

Yes I have; in both the USA and Philippines. As I said it is the airline that is most likely going to stop you. On two occasions I had a visa so after consultations was allowed to board. From Philippines I was required to purchase a round trip ticket when Thai refused to honor my return to Bangkok ticket (did not have visa that time).
