Retiring From Non-B, Starting A New Non-O

Featured Replies

So, I'm all ready to 'retire' from the Thai company that has employed me these many years. I have the money in the bank, my own place, and everything is set, with my old Non-B visa and work permit expiring next week.

There's just one little glitch on the horizon. To convert my Non-B to a Non-O retirement visa, I need a letter from my soon-to-be-former Thai employer stating that I've left the company and they've canceled the work permit, and I'm getting the sinking feeling that they just won't get their act together to give me the letter before my visa expires (this is why I'm retiring!)

So, I'm thinking plan 'B' would be to arrange to leave the country on the day my old visa expires - most likely to Phnom Penh since I have some tickets there I could use; then get a new non-O visa from the Thai embassy there before coming back to Bangkok and starting the retirement process.

I still have a day or two to see if the company comes through, but if all else fails is plan B a viable option? Any likely pitfalls?

Thanks

Sound like a good plan B to me.
