Did Anybody Travel Bkk - Xiamen Already ?

Featured Replies

Airasia is flying to Xiamen for as low as 499 Baht one way, and as I have been to HK many times, but never ever to Chinese mainland, I am considering to fly there in August or September for a couple of days. Did anybody go there already ? Is it worth a trip of 4-5 days ? its located at the sea...so, are there nice beaches ? the city of Xiamen itself...an ok place ? please share your experiences....

499 baht? Did you forget a zero somewhere?

ummmm...... I misstyped......its 449 Baht, not 499 Baht..... I have to apology.....and NO, I did not miss any "0" somewhere.....its all real..... including all taxes, fuel surcharges and other hidden fees, a return trip is 2403 Baht..... less than 50 € for a 3 - hours flight.....I think its worth a trip....anybody wanna join ?

I have been to Xiamen several times. 4-5 days is going to be waaay too long, as there really isn't much to do or see there. Definitely do not go for the beaches!

So why does it cost more to return than to go? Do you have to buy a round trip ticket or can you just fly out and return surface transport?

Surface transport from Xiamen to Bangkok? That would be quite a trip.

thanks TSO310 !

I know hundreds of travel- and tourismwebsites, but almost nothing about China so far.......

We are moving to Xiamen next month where I will teach at the university. Xiamen by many accounts is the cleanest and most beautiful city in China. A few years ago it beat out 40 other world cities for the most liveable city in the competition. Phoenix Arizona was second. The air is clean, there is an expat community, several fine restaurants and people are friendly. The biggest challenge is the language but overall, it has more to offer than Thailand for us.

We are flying Air Asia, one way, for less than $50 total for both of us from BKK.

It's well worth a look.....we did and stayed......... :o

Oops!!!!!!!!!!!!!I forgot to add on the departure rip off from BKK but still a bargain via Air Asia.............The departure fee of 500 bahts cost more than the ticket to China!

thanks scalawag,

I wanted to hear such thing :o

i will certainly do the booking within the next few days....still plenty of seats available for as low as 449 baht, return trip is 2403 BT . thats almost unbelievable for a flight of 3.15 hours..... I was browsing those websites tso310 mentioned, and I got some other informations about Xiamen from the web, and even bouight the LP guide yesterday, and now it seems like 4 days is even not enough to see all the things there, especially that beautiful island off Xiamen coast.

I am really curious to see China mainland.....

The island you are talking about is Gulangyu. It makes a nice little half-day. But I still wouldn't overestimate its charms, or the charms of Xiamen in general for that matter.

Please let us know how you liked it once you get back.
