Hi all,

Don't know which section this question belongs so I'll post it here.

I'm looking for ideas and ways of improving my person to person/persons skills. This would primarily be one to one conversations or speaking confidently in front of a small crowd in an office environment from a senior position. Obviously one to one is not as difficult.

Personally, I feel myself freezing up in front of a crowd when saying something, my mind starts to wonder off or have a trillion things running through it that it blanks out. Nervousness fills in and it shows. I won't go into much details as this is very much a personal thing.

Books? Training courses? Maybe even acting classes? I would love to hear some ideas on ways from my fellow members.

Thanks.

Do you know about Toastmasters Club?  Its an international organization to develop public speaking ability.  Google 'toastmasters thailand'.

Toastmasters is very good.

For something to read, get hold of one of the Dale Carnegie books on public speaking...outstanding.

Public speaking is probably number one on the list of fears of most people.

Public Speaking is the biggest phobia if all.

1. Get confident in front of a mirror or film yourself speaking - keep analyzing and changing your presentation until you feel you have it right.

2. After the confidence builder of your own analysis, get 5 friends and do the same presentation to them. Let them give you the feed back.

3. when putting a presentation together, make it shortish at first, underline your points and even you use your notes as a reference.

4. when delivering a speech or demonstration, speak a little lower and a little slower, raise your head a little and focus on a dot at the back of the room. (they wont know who your looking at)

5. always stand. breathing is important when nervous.

6. keep to the points you have noted, do not dribble on - be direct, concise and to the point.

7. the more you do, the better you will get and then your personality can come out.

Yes, it is a big phobia, one I don't know I can ever get over but would like to.

Never knew about toastmasters. Will follow up on that. Has anyone used their services?

Thanks for the input guys. :o

Tornado has some good suggestions. Only one I wouldn't have gone for is Number 1. It actually used to make me more nervous to see what I looked and sounded like. Try to engage a bit of humour, but no crazy jokes.

If you are like me you'll never get over the nerves but you get good at hiding them, and this is from a guy who's made 1000's of public speeches both in a Courtroom setting and throughout the world on Property Development and Law.

Sorry, but I don't really put much reliance on Management Taining techniques. Usually the guys are naturally confident, and are full of BS.

Toastmasters will build your skills, confidence and self worth in a fun friendly atmosphere, would love to find a club in Pattaya or participate in starting one.
