We're shortly going to need to ship some sixty kilo's or so of clothes and personal items back to the UK and I wonder if anyone has any experience of a cost effective and reliable way to do this. EMS looks like one method, excess baggage is definitely a non-starter, too small of an amount for a partial container, any advice anyone?

Also, are there any Customs issues to be aware of on this point, all of the goods are over six months old and I've been overseas resident for many years.

Thanks in advance.

Fedex has their always running special, "25 Kilo Boxes" . I am not sure how much to your destination but recent fees going to The U.S. were just over 5,000B taking about 3-4 days. Rates from here to the Philippines are just over 4,000B for the same 25Kilogram box. Anything more complicated than that ,dial in to the Pattaya forum and PM Raro who is a moderator, advertiser, guitar player, adventurer, etc. who is in the shipping business and knows what it is when it comes to shipping:whistling:

I sent some personal items back to Australia using the Thai Post, they will ship boxes up to 20 Kg. It costs around 3500B per box. Everything arrived just fine. Any of the larger postal offices should be able to help you out.

To be information for some one want to export personal abroad more than 20 kgs.

Even you send by postal service but it's may go to Customs warehouse.

It's mean you have to do paper work and pay for Import Customs clearance.

We recommend you to pay extra for air freight charge and let that personal stuff

go with your suitcase. Then when every thing arrive it's easier to get it from the bag conveyor

same time with other suitcase.

Un accompanied baggage is your answer, between $2.50 and 3.50kg USD to UK. UK may want you to pay import duty, so just put used cloths and stuff in it and let them know you did it as it's the smart way to avoid airline extortion excess baggage charge. Not guarantee to travel on the same plane as you though. Normally the airline agent at the airport does it for you. It is a intl industry standard.

I see a expat freight forwarder advertising in the TV Small Biz forum as well, roro I think is his name.

The wife trundles bag loads of stuff to the much maligned Thai postal service at Phra Khanong whereupon they find her a nice carton(s) and pack it all very nicely, all whilst I'm eating a nice bowl of Tom Yam in their cafe. Job done. @4K THB for 20K. 6-8 weeks later it arrives in London.

Repeated numerous times, never a problem. I've only ever paid customs duty on new items that I've declared as such, and often not even then :D

I like the EMS service and think it's very good, you're the first person I've come across that's used it for shipments to the UK so it's good to hear you've had positive results, have to say it's my strongest option thus far.
