Satc Newbie

Featured Replies

OK, confession, I had never watched SATC until last night when I watched the first episodes on my computer. I didn't have tv in the 90s (ok still don't but now have other access) and never thought it relevant to my life. So I watched it on the recommendation of some female friends who thought I should at least watch a few.

First one, ho hum. kinda funny but well, didn't crank my boat (crank something anyway). But, then I watched a few more and kind of got into it. By the third episode, well, it is funny. Not convinced I will get the entire however many seasons it was out, but was curious, should I?

Any satc fans out there? I heard the movies aren't great compared to the show. should i get the rest of the seasons?

Used to love it. Sadly found the movies a bit disappointing. Maybe its great just in small doses? The movies seemed a bit twee and silly to me.

I think its one of those series best watched when it comes out (not that you cant enjoy it now of course)..only because it reflects the zeitgeist of the time. (Sorry zeitgeist sounds a tad grandiose to apply to a tv series..but its only for want of a better word).Bit like "Friends" in that way too..where it factored in things that people could relate to. I think with satc it reflected much of how women were feeling at the time. Women started to identify with the characters, and with each new series were able to "grow" with them.

If you are going to watch the series from start to finish, i would say try to imagine what was happening for women at that time (i dont mean for you personally as you were on an Island in the middle of nowhere! ). That may help you get into it even more.

I think the more you watch, the more you will feel affection for the characters. They scripts are pretty good and tackle a great deal of subjects. The characters, although relatively glamorous, do feel very real.

And the actor who plays the part of Aidan is sex on legs scrumptious!!!

Gawd..didnt you kinda hate Carrie a bit for the whole Aiden thing? :annoyed:

never understood how she would go for Big instead of Aiden, he was lovery

Maybe there was a reason he was called BIG ??????????

Contrary to popular male belief, the size of a mans penis isnt a top priority for women in choosing a long term/life partner.

I watched the first couple of series but got bored with it. It seems to be on telly here in Thailand every bloody night.

And Aiden didn't look that he was lacking in the trouser department.

And, yes i did look!!

ladies sorry for crashing your forum, but its a question ive always wanted to ask and was thinking about posting the question a while back. bottled it in fear of a backlash though.

so here goes!

what is it about SATC that women love. is it how it really is? seen through the eyes of a woman and their general perspective on how they see the world and whats going on in it.

ive tried to get into it several times, but just dont get it! maybe it doesnt help that im a guy and couldnt possibly understand. plus the fact that i have never really rated SJP as an actress. its a genuine question though!

btw is the guy your talking about the same actor who was in that series set in canada i think, with a moose walking down the main high street while the opening credits of the show were rolled(forget the name now) think he also played in the supporting role of the movie "my greek wedding"

Hi tigerfish.

I think its the fact that we kind of "grew" with the characters..or that the characters grew with us. I imagine i would find it hard to get into now, or at least as much as when i first watched it. It seemed to reflect the time well. The writers did a good job with scripts that reflected womens issues and desires and foibles etc, and the dynamics between the characters gelled. Each character is quite different, but each respected each other, even when views conflicted. I guess it was a bit of escape too as the characters were glamorous and sassy but with "real" problems and issues that many of us face. Im not sure i can put my finger on it really..but i imagine its a combination of different things that made it so successful amongst women.

..and yes, Aiden is the guy from my Greek Wedding etc. I think most of us scratch our heads over Mr Big being chosen over Aiden..but ah well..who can understand women, eh? :D

Norther exposure was the series set in alaska & yes, he was one of the cast. Gorgeous then as now :whistling:
