Thai restaurants to help boost shrimps sales

BANGKOK: -- A group of Thai restauranters have agreed to add shrimp dishes to their menus in an effort to boost the price of prawns, according to a senior trade official.

Restaurant owners and representatives of the shrimp farmer associations agreed to work together to help boost the low domestic price of prawns and help the country’s shrimp farmers, the Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, Siripol Yodmuangchareon, said.

Meanwhile, an international festival to promote Thai prawns in Bangkok early this month was a success, Deputy Commerce Minister Suriya Lapwisuthisin told TNA.

More than 70 prawn importers from China, Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Canada attended the festival.

As the result, foreign importers have placed more than US$500 million, or more than 22 billion baht, worth of orders for Thai frozen prawns and other seafood products.
