July 1, 201015 yr Hi there, with the recent news about the impact on the sugarcane production down to 60 mmt due to the bad weather. Does anyone here has any opinions on that or the cane growers here can give some feedbacks over here? Is pretty worrying. thank you
July 1, 201015 yr I am no expert but we are on good terms with the lady who grows sugarcane next to our house. Her crop this year is nowhere near where it should be, growing slowly due to the weather she says and after a poor crop last year too she is pretty peed off.

Tks apetley........that is pretty bad.....hopefully there will be more rainfall in this july/aug to boost the cane...if not the impact will be quite negative for both consumer and growers....

Sugar cane yoelds will be very poor , this year, due to drought. It is however not only sugar that is up the spout. Watch the price of rice skyrocket, but it will not be the farmers who benefit, it will be the chinesr-thai middlemen. Less than 40% of paddy fields have been planted ,so far and most of it is starting to go yellow. Cassava appears to be showing a shortfall of 12,000,000 tons. the poor peasant farmers are really going to suffer this year.

Any views on that?
