Hi there, with the recent news about the impact on the sugarcane production down to 60 mmt due to the bad weather. Does anyone here has any opinions on that or the cane growers here can give some feedbacks over here? Is pretty worrying.

thank you :)

I am no expert but we are on good terms with the lady who grows sugarcane next to our house.

Her crop this year is nowhere near where it should be, growing slowly due to the weather she says and after a poor crop last year too she is pretty peed off.

Tks apetley........that is pretty bad.....hopefully there will be more rainfall in this july/aug to boost the cane...if not the impact will be quite negative for both consumer and growers....

Sugar cane yoelds will be very poor , this year, due to drought. It is however not only sugar that is up the spout. Watch the price of rice skyrocket, but it will not be the farmers who benefit, it will be the chinesr-thai middlemen. Less than 40% of paddy fields have been planted ,so far and most of it is starting to go yellow. Cassava appears to be showing a shortfall of 12,000,000 tons. the poor peasant farmers are really going to suffer this year.

wow with cassava prices increasing such a speed and now that it has been said that there will be shortage of 12 mmt....it is going to increase much higher......seems like both canes and cassava prices will be on a rise once again......and so do rice......

wonder if the thai govt has any plans in improving the irrigation (water system) so as to prevent such things from happening again?

anyway have u guys heard that there is a buyback of 100 kmt of sugar issued by the govt? is the shortage that bad?

Any views on that?
