I plan to travel back to Chiang mai for three months on a tourist visa. Before this visa has expired i will join the CM Uni on a 1 year language course. I understand i will need to apply for the educational visa outside of Thailand. So my question is, how many days do i need left on this tourist visa to apply for the ED visa? I don't want to travel to Laos, apply for the visa, to be told its too late! Is there a minimum amount of time i need left on this first visa? I did ask the lady at the embassy but she didn't really know the answer... :unsure:

You can apply anytime .

Vientiane is not Thailand so no Thai visa is valid there or required. You just need to exit Thailand before your permitted to stay expires.
