There are many in and around Ban Tawai 15km outside chiang mai, that's where most of the exported furniture is made, I used to export to the UK but 30% off the £ killed me stone dead. Good luck in your search it's worth a trip up there !

Many of the manufacturers don't have website's so it's worth travelling up there, Just give them a design and they can make it for sure. Sorry lost all my contacts. But head for Hang dong which is about 15km outside Chiang Mai and the village of Baan Tawai is left at the traffic lights and carry on to the centre of the village and also note the small showrooms on the way from the traffic lights to the village. My advice is ask many cos the price will differ immensley but from the designs you have given I would expect to pay no more than 3000-4000 baht per stool. That will be a fraction of the cost than BKK for sure. Don't bother with jj Market they also get most made in Chian Mai specially if it's teak wood.If it's for export I would advise Rubber wood strong and does not move to much at the joints with moisture, If its for use in Thailand Teak is fine. Good Luck

3000 - 4000 baht at current exchange rates equates to quite a lot of money. Most European furniture factories could compete favourably with that price, despite much higher operating costs.

Quality solid wood furniture is very different to the plywood/ laminated <deleted> you see in your local furniture showroom. If something like this design were purchased from a factory in the UK that makes bar and restaurant furniture expect to pay in the region of £200 upwards so this price is very good. Remember that it's the Uk who's currency has hit rock bottom, the baht is still worth the same it was 20 yrs ago. Go into your local Makro in Thailand and check out the price of their plastic/stainless steel barstools. You'll see what I'm talking about. The days of ultra cheap manufacturing in Thailand are over. Do your Homework if you care to comment without reasonable proof to substantiate your presumption my friend !

Hi,

Having furniture made in any factory is a hands on task. When you find a factory willing to make it for you it is important that they make a sample piece for you to sign off on. This will usually cost you a lot more than the unit price. Then you will be expected to pay a deposit for the manufacture of the units. If you are local to the factory you may have the option to inspect the production and check that they are indeed making them to your specifications. The problems arise when production is finished and it is not exactly what you ordered. You have paid a sizable deposit and it appears something got lost in translation!

You are always better of finding a factory that already makes what you want and buy from their regular production.

In the past I bought a lot of furniture in Thailand for export. It is not as easy as it seams. Many companies in Baan Tawai are not licensed to work with and sell native hard woods. And all containers have to be fumigated and certified before leaving Thailand.

I did deal with a company in Chiang Mai called Thaweephan phone +66 53 297436 it has been many years so I don’t know if they still exist, but they were good and did deliver what was ordered and on time.

If you are in BKK go to the Thailand Furniture Mart.

“Thailand Furniture Mart in total is 11,780 square meters in area, and includes 74 exhibiting rooms on three floors, the exhibition space totalling 6,100 square meters. There are at present 72 companies represented.

Thailand Furniture Mart is in the Ninth Tower, 33/2-3 Rama 9 Road, Bangkok. Service hours are:

Monday-Friday 09.00-17.00 hrs. (business negotiations and ordering only)

Saturday 09.00-18.00 hrs. (open for walk-in buyers)

Telephone: 66 25116020 to 30, 66 25137070, 66 25131909 to 15 extension 707, 717, 719 “

Best of luck,

Regards

Foggy.
