Here in the U.K. I am suffering nasty hayfever for the first time in years.

Never had it in Thailand, and trust me,  there's lots of dry grass, pollen, sunshine and stuff there.

What gives?

Four years in LoS and not a sneeze for me. I have been known to break out in a sneezing fit just flying over the coast into Aus. :o

I've often wondered the same thing, summer months here in Isaan with the rice paddies burning or the smog in BKK should be a good trigger, but thankfully not. Must have something to do with the humidity. IMO

Hmm i think it is to do with smart pollen, yes indeed, over the years the pollen in Thailand has learnt that to find a Thai nose in which it can enter it has to search very hard, as the average Thai nose lie fairly close to the face. Having developed this Darwinian trick it simple fails to notice the huge and very obvious twin tunels on offer on the forang face ( a case of can't see the wood for the trees). But due to the increasing number of large nasal cavity visitors i feel that the pollen will soon relearn the old "hey theres a large hooter lets party" trick and you will all soon be running nosed again. :o

I sneeze mightily here in Chiang Mai, never elsewhere. I attribute it to my aircon recycling dust. My windows are shut most of the time, so outside air is not in the equation.

When it is cool enough to leave the windows open, no sneezing.

I almost enjoy a mighty sneeze, perhaps harkening back to the last century when snuff was so prevalenty used. Does anyone know more about snuff and its uses. Was it taken merely to enjoy a good sneeze?

Scamp,

Sitting in the wilds of Tcheuchterland you are exposed to the wonders of that marvellous cash crop called Rape seed.............. yes all those pretty yellow flowers on the hills around the Broch are bringing misery to thousands (if not millions).

Go get a shot ! !

Snuff is a tobacco product so it's highly addictive! However, like many products that are now considered bad for you, in days of old, they were considered to be good for you! Snuff, smoking etc, were said to kill germs and this was said when a lot of people died young from unknown diseases. The producers sold them as health products (well, not quite, but not bad for you) and Joe Public thought when he was coughing and sneezing he was expelling all these germs that could kill you! So all these bad habits caught on...

Keep up John! I'm currently in Morecambe, back to Aberdeen tomorrow for a few days then London followed by the Isle Of Wight.

Anyway, you could be right... Hayfever is completely different to a dust allergy and there is a lot of rape around here but to my knowledge, there's no rape at all in Thailand, other than __________________________________________

(Insert inevitable joke)

thats a real good explanation! I heared rumours that some greek noses got already attacked from pollen which are specialised in Elephants.

So from both sides the evolution is on the way.

I think 3-5 bottle beer per day can reduce the effects of the pollen.
