Having been imprisoned by judgment of the Thai Court

So most likely he can return.

Having been imprisoned by judgment of the Thai Court would indicate to most people that his return would be prohibited.

So most likely he can return. May just have to wait for a change of government, but if he chooses to he can return.

It's pretty much a petty offense anyway. (Noting he has not been convicted of all the things the Thaivisa Brigade accused him of, including terrorism, inciting violence, looting, etc, etc, etc, etc.....)

His passport will have a big stamp in it, saying his sentence, his charge and the numbers of years that he will be blacklisted, which usually never exceeds 2 years, because as you quite rightly pointed out, it was indeed a petty offense that they sentenced him for.

In reality, for an offense of this nature, and being a first time offender he should have been given a suspended sentence but as he had done time already, so they gave him an unjustified sentence of 45 days, to make the books balance in the eyes of the world.

I missed seeing that anywhere in the link mario provided. Do you have it?

Not only convicted of a crime can lead to deportation:

He can also be denied entry under:

"Having behaviour which could cause possible danger to the public; or having the likelihood of being a nuisance or constituting any violence to the peace, safety and security of the public or to the security of the nation; or being under warrant of arrest by competent officials of foreign governments."

Not to mention:

"Being mentally unstable or having any of the diseases stated in the Ministerial Regulations." But I'm not commenting on if he is mentally unstable. :)

If you have a Thai wife, then I would guess you aren't a tourist. The tourism business isn't a big business in every province. And helping the family seems to be part of the culture here. Finding a farang to marry does help support the family's in some regions much more than tourism does, in my opinion. How many times have I heard Thailand is for Thais, not farang?

But this topic is about someone who thought it was fun to get drunk or whatever he was doing and ignore an emergency decree order and was caught on video tape. He was at least apologetic to the court and got a reduced sentence, unlike his Aussie counterpart, whom I saw on TV yelling at the judge.

Agree.

This guy has demonstrated exactly the wrong way to go.

Any info on this fool?

According to an article that webfact posted:

In a separate case, Australian man Conor Purcell has pleaded not guilty to violating the emergency rule. His trial will start on September 5.

So basically everyone seems to think that if your a foreigner in this country your not allowed an opinion ? In every 'western' country you become resident, pay your taxes and have to basic human right to peacefully demonstrate and participate in political debate. In most you can also become a citizen of that country and be eligible to vote.

Savage's actions ARE stupid and idiotic but the comments on here saying foreigners should not have an opinion and should stay out of Thai issues are well off the mark. After all, many of us are long term resident here

This attitude is belong to British people who destroys and occupied other country in case of wealth or such this case as fun.

I am pretty sure if a foreigner in their country do such this vandalism can not go out alive.

I suppose Thai police must punished him more than 1.5 Months.

Just one word to say **** illegitimate................

I guess I'm not everyone. You can have your opinion, but you can't join an illegal rally and violate an emergency decree order without the possibility of getting arrested, as you are violating the law. I feel it is best to "fly under the radar" and not paint a target on myself here, personally. You can become a permanent resident of Thailand or even become a citizen, but it would require time and effort to do so. There is a pinned thread in the forums about how to do it. But I don't think I'll give up my US citizenship to become a Thai citizen.

Jeff wasn't convicted for having an opinion, he was convicted for breaking state of emergency rules.

Of course you and I and everybody else have the right to have our opinions, but it is a question of what and where and when it is appropriate to voice it. And we of course should only voice opinion where we have mandate. Common sense

Rememer that the demonstrators around where Jeff liked to hang out were not peaceful demonstrators but occupiers and that the demonstrations were not peaceful but illegal acts that will cost Thailand somewhere in the region of 150,000,000,000 bath totally.

Jeff was nowhere near peaceful demonstrations or peaceful political debate :)

In the next coup Thailand will kick all foreigners out, better safe than sorry.

Also the farangs who support the coup and the junta and argue that the violent crackdown was justified.

Now you have lost me. Are you saying that Thailand is likely to change its laws so that all foreigners regardless of if they are convicted of breaking the law or not will be kicked out of the country?

No, you didn't miss it as this is an Immigration rule. Convicted persons always have the reason for non entry stamped in their passports, and its normal for this type of offense to be given only a 2 year ban.

I know as I have had to deal with both non convicted and convicted prisoners in the past.

That sounds really like a sensible thing to do doesn't it? Kick out all the foreign banks companies etc and Thailand will revert back to the stone age. No more money for the boys to spend on tanks, ships, planes and guns.

If he is blacklisted he can never return to Thailand. Considering he has got his family here, that's as good as prison.

I feel sorry both for him and his family. Lifechanging stuff. <deleted>**, there's a bunch of sleepless nights right there...

Thats not true, if you get deported you can come straight back. I know a guy who got deported and bought a return ticket.

Black listed.. .change your name, new passport.

This guys face is well known now, wouldnt be comfortable for him back in Thailand though. Many Thais and expats hate his guts.

Id like to kick him in the balls for being such a p*** and making us all look like low-class thugs.

Oh, I thought blacklisting meant he can never return legally? You telling me the moron is gonna try to come back by playing the system..?

OK, apologies, there goes his second chance right there...

My bad.

Hopefully his parents will find a nice quiet place for him back in Kent and won't let him out for a long time.

1st thing I would do if I was Jeff is track down the guy who grassed him up, i.e. the guy in the video who filmed him and then posted it on Youtube for all to see...

Are you insane? The yellows have never even been charged, Sonthis shooters have never been arrested, the rich kid in the mercedes that ran over the Thais getting off the bus is not in jail, the copper that shot the Canadian in Pai has been "reassigned, and you want this guy to "get lost in jail".

In a real country he would have been fined and released for maybe public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

off-topic but I had read that Kanpithak Patchimsawat the guy who had run his mercedes over bus passengers had been sentences to 10 years in jail. So he didn't go to jail in the end?
Use to work for the British Royal household

Warnings were given by the authorities that any foreigner found taking part in the demos would be dealt with.

Best place for him,, back in England. Lets hope he stays there.

Yes he was an idiot with a big mouth but thank god there are Brits, Europeans and many other foreign nationals without big mouths who refuse to be silenced in foreign lands by the threat of "being dealt with!" Where would we be without insight and reporting from the majority of well intentioned journalists, NGOs, Humanitarian organisations and civilians willing to to put their lives and liberty on the line.
Get a grip....you think he is along those lines?

Not at all! If you actually read my comment you'd have seen that. My point is anyone should have the right to make a stand in any country and thank god people do even with the threat of "being dealt with!". Amnesty International have accused the Thai government of using excessive force against civilians which has damaged Thailand's credibility much more than a wannabe anarchist!

Making a stand and burning down the livelihoods of Bangkok workers are 2 different things. Red apologists still pushing the 'civilian' mantra. Too bad that Arisman can't be arrested as well. He made a stand: a stand to implore the reds to burn down Bangkok. Jeff Savage took the bait. The red cheerleaders want more.

Whoever posted the video should get a medal, not a threat of violence. Subtle threats of violence a speciality of some red cheerleaders. The subtext of course is that the reds like to first action violence and then point-blank deny it. The problem here was that Jeff was boasting what he was going to do. Difficult somewhat to deny...even for the reds.

Clearly an intention of revenge by one of Thaksin's forum supporters dressed up in some misleading verbiage.
