He is very fortunate to be released with 45 days served. Is he being deported as well?

Yes he will be deported. According to the BBC article I read he will have to spend another 4 days in immigration detention until his deportation is processed. He was sentenced to 90 days but as he confessed the sentence was reduced by half (normal in Thailand) and he is being released due to time already served while waiting for trial. Actually he is being deported for overtsaying his visa, don't know if he will ever be allowed back into Thailand, but I doubt it.

Also according to that BBC article he had been living with his elderly parents in Pattaya.

Sounds like a real winner, doesn't he?

This nut bar and the Ozzie nut bar, along with 'some' of the red terrorists, get slapped in jail, where they belong; HOWEVER the yellow terrorists don't get prosecuted, because; quote the prosecutors, "The perps were too busy with other matters." Those 'other matters' include freely setting Govdernment policy. Is Sondhi in jail? No. Should he be? YES!

PAD is planning on building a statue of him as a center piece for the Airport. It's called 'Hero, Freedom Fighter' < Of course this has to wait until the red faction stops winning all of the elections.

British red shirt pleads guilty, faces deportation

A Briton linked to the red shirts yesterday changed his plea to guilty of violating the emergency rule, paving the way for his release and subsequent deportation since he has already served out his one-and-a-half-month term during remand.

Following his admission of guilt, the Pathum Wan Court convicted Jeffrey Savage and sentenced him to serve three months in jail. His jail term was cut in half, equivalent to time served in remand, because of his guilty plea as a ground for leniency.

The magistrates court then ordered his release pending the arrangements for deportation.

Savage's charges stemmed from his involvement in the red-shirt rally from March 14 to May 19.

In a separate case, Australian man Conor Purcell has pleaded not guilty to violating the emergency rule. His trial will start on September 5.

Regarding the remand of 11 red-shirt leaders facing terrorism charges, the Criminal Court ruled to extend their remand for 12 days until the next hearing on July 20.

The Department of Special Investigation cited time needed to interview witnesses and check on the evidence as grounds for holding the 11 in their remand cells. The defence did not oppose the remand.

In a separate development, four of the 11 were escorted by wardens to attend the court session related to their involvement in the unruly protest at the residence of royal chief adviser General Prem Tinsulanonda in July 2007.

The four are Veera Musigapong, Natthawut Saikua, weng Tojirakarn and Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphuthai. They entered pleas of not guilty to causing the disturbance and other charges related to the protest.

The court has scheduled August 23 for the examination of evidence from the prosecution and the defence before setting a trial date.

Defence lawyer Jessada Chandee said his client Veera would petition for the suspension of the trial pending the completion of another judicial review, in which the red-shirt leaders sued former national police chief General Patcharawat Wongsuwan and the public prosecutors for malfeasance for wrongfully indicting them in this case.

He was convicted and jailed. Normally that means deportation and blacklisted.

Pretty sure they'll send him home. Too much is too much.

Big mistake.

This terrorist, robber and arsonist should be lock away for good.

Agreed.

Freedom of speech, even if stupid speech we do not agree with, should not be tolerated on earth and especially in Thailand, which literally means "land of the free." Those who speak their mind and do something stupid like this should be locked away for life, no chance of parole, never to see the sunlight again.

</sarcasm>

I would not mind if the foreigners who talk bad about Thai people and posting their hate on the internet would get deported and blacklisted.

There is not much good they can do for the peace of the Thai society but a danger that if they work as teacher that they infect the next generation with their idiocy.

SRJ, banned people sometimes somehow find their ways to come back. Schizo or not.

More than a couple of farangs write here entries that clearly violate Thai laws, they should get deported too.

TVF should be happy to assist the Thai authorities and provide the ip addresses of the culprits.

Are you mad? 1.5 months for talking crap without acting on it is a rough sentence. The guy was obviously drunk and stoned on something at the time which the video clearly shows. In the countries where the majority of us come from the police would lock you up overnight to sleep it off, put you in front of a magistrate the next day and let you go with a fine! He wasn't an illegal immigrant, just a bit foolish!

But he wasn't jailed for 1.5 months for talking crap without acting. He was jailed for violating state of emergency rules. It was only because of his big mouth that he was found but he wasn't sentenced because of what the mouth did...

Shut up! If he was walking down the street minding his own business like the people filming him he wouldn't have been arrested. Big mouth = 1.5 months! Do the math!

He was sentenced for violating state of emergency rules, not because he had a big mouth. Of course he wouldn't have been found if he hadn't opened his big mouth

Jirapa - You seem to be copying some of Jeff's skills - Please keep this discussion civilized and don't involve your personal problems in how you answer posts at TV

Exactly.

The authorities made it known from the start of this uprising that any foreigner found participating in the protests would be targeted and dealt with.....its a fact.

So its not as if he wasn't warned is it?

Now I agree that everyone has a choice to freedom of speech and to demonstrate. But taking themselves into someone elses country to join a political demonstration that has nothing to do with them( as not being voters ) or the country they are from, is not a good idea.

They are just there for the experience and ride. Then go back to where they are from.

My feeling is when you are in someone elses house you should be on your best behaviour.

If you have a Thai wife, then I would guess you aren't a tourist. The tourism business isn't a big business in every province. And helping the family seems to be part of the culture here. Finding a farang to marry does help support the family's in some regions much more than tourism does, in my opinion. How many times have I heard Thailand is for Thais, not farang?

But this topic is about someone who thought it was fun to get drunk or whatever he was doing and ignore an emergency decree order and was caught on video tape. He was at least apologetic to the court and got a reduced sentence, unlike his Aussie counterpart, whom I saw on TV yelling at the judge.

Agree.

This guy has demonstrated exactly the wrong way to go.

Any info on this fool?

Thai govt doing a bit of fce saving before it exploded in their face. they were actually using the legal process as a penal process. Meanwhile CRES and the clampdown continue to take Thailand on a course towards military dictatorship.

Methinks i would rather have the government we currently have than a government composed of the leaders of the Red Shirts,

The ideals of Pol Pot, Chairman Mao, Josef Stalin, indeed North Korea would be a paradise compared the state we would have here if Thaksin and his band of bandits ever returned to power.

That's a bit wide of the posts.

Thaksin = Stalin !!!

Wonder if you would make that statement / accusation within hearing of Thaksins lawyer ??

This saved Thailand some bad press and situation they didn't want or need.

Probably told him to plead guilty and you'll be quietly sent home, or go to trial and face years.

Wonder how the Aussie loud mouth is going to get on. He certainly failed the attitude test.

The loud-mouth Aussie is an an Irish import I think. Not that it matters - an idiot is an idiot.

Listen and watch Thai news and you will hear Tokay. Many Thais have been both arrested and sentenced. All I have heard have been given 6 month suspended sentences - except the leaders of course, they are not ready with them yet

Interesting. They were given 6 months suspended sentences for actually causing real damage and this loser actually goes to jail.

Amazing Thailand indeed.

Wrong again Tokay :)

They were given 6 month suspended sentences for breaking state of emergency rules. Guess that teaches us that it helps if our parents have tought us what respectmeans in Thailand. Perhaps the judge was using his own judgement in a totally legal way and decided that someone who among many other things had insulted the prime ministers wife deserved something different from someone who behaved respectfully :o

Does anyone see anything strange in this?

Have agree that is too far over the top.

Thaksin and company would be no picnic for most who EVER spoke against his ego

But the laundry list above is no doubt way far of the likely

blot on Thailand's copy book that a return of Thaksin would create.

Dr Weng in charge would be at least an analogue to Deng era China.

But he would never survive the post red-Thai apocalypse political purges

that would likely occur if he were to become leader for a spell.

Band of bandits is on the mark.

glad he is deported, he makes a bad name for all farangs. He went from crying like a baby, to insulting Abhisit and his wife, not a very smart guy nor someone we need in thailand. He is lucky all he got was a short stay in jail and deportation. Should have done a year, he was way over the top

People like this guy should either be lost in jail (and never let out) or kicked out of the country for ever!!!

Are you insane? The yellows have never even been charged, Sonthis shooters have never been arrested, the rich kid in the mercedes that ran over the Thais getting off the bus is not in jail, the copper that shot the Canadian in Pai has been "reassigned, and you want this guy to "get lost in jail".

In a real country he would have been fined and released for maybe public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Wonder which UK mag will buy his story and what they will call it?

He could make a fair whack from his "experiences"

Will the Irish Ozzie eeejit learn from this and change his tune when he comes before the judge?

Wanting that this guy gets his punishment does not mean the other guys should not get it. All the guys in your example should be punished too.

According to the Immigration Act of Thailand B.E. 2522 (1979), foreigners who fall into any of the following categories are prohibited to enter Thailand:

Having been imprisoned by judgment of the Thai Court; or by lawful injunction or judgment of the Court of a foreign country, except for when the penalty is for a petty offence, or negligence, or is provided for as an exception by the Ministerial Regulations.

Having behaviour which could cause possible danger to the public; or having the likelihood of being a nuisance or constituting any violence to the peace, safety and security of the public or to the security of the nation; or being under warrant of arrest by competent officials of foreign governments.

http://www.imm2.go.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=112

Gives the criteria for entering, but believe the same can be used to eject someone from Thailand.

So most likely he can return. May just have to wait for a change of government, but if he chooses to he can return.

It's pretty much a petty offense anyway. (Noting he has not been convicted of all the things the Thaivisa Brigade accused him of, including terrorism, inciting violence, looting, etc, etc, etc, etc.....)
