Hi all,

I have a 3 months non-O marriage visa which is expiring on August, 8th. This visa was issued in May by the immigration office in Bangkok, based on an income letter issued by my Embassy. Last week, I went back to my Embassy to get another "proof of income" which they refused to issue (they would however accept to give me a copy of the letter issued in May).

Which means that I now have only a copy of the proof of income from the Embassy. Is a copy with a letter from my employer good enough for a one year extension? If not, is there a way to extend the three months non-O visa by exiting/entering the country (this would give me enough time to have the 2-months statement with 400k thb in a bank)? Is it better to go to KL and re-apply in Bangkok in 1 year?

Thanks in advance for your help and please apologize for my bad English.

You will have to discuss this with Immigration as normally they always require an original letter for extension of stay but if your Embassy will not issue perhaps they have word your original letter and copy will be accepted (or maybe not).

You can obtain a 60 day extension of stay to visit wife without the financials if immigration refuses the one year extension of stay. Be sure to apply early during the last 30 days of permitted to stay to allow time for plan B if required.

What has changed? If you met the financial requirements when immigration issued you the Non "O" in preparation for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage, then why not now. Same for your embassy, if your finances are in order the letter should be no problem. The 90 day Non "O" visa was to give you time to season your 400,000 baht in a Thai bank, if required.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies... Was busy fighting with my embassy and the fabulous Chaeng Wattana complex... It appears that the Swiss embassy (yes, i'm Swiss - nobody's perfect :D) can provide guarantees on pensions (since they are paid by the state and can be verified by the embassy), but not on private companies (they have no way to check whether the information is true or not). They issued the first letter to help me to get a visa, but did not want to issue the same letter 2 months later. They want me to have the employer's letter notified by a Swiss lawyer, then the lawyer's signature authentified by the state and then they would issue the letter (typical Swiss, isn't it?). It appears that I am the only non-retired Swiss citizen in Thailand who requested such a letter (I told them, there will be more and more cases like mine - people working on the internet and leaving their country).

I went to Chaeng Wattana this morning, and - believe it or not - met a very nice lady who was very helpful. She extended the visa for 2 months (thanks so much lopburi3! - didn't know it was possible, that's why I was a bit worried) which gives me enough time to wire the required 400k from my account in Switzerland and block them for two months. Thank you all for your help. I've got the full list of required documents (in pasa Thai however). I will have it translated and post the requirements for 1 year marriage visa extensions, if anybody wants them.

Glad that it will be solved.

It looks like the letter they issued was their very first. They might have received instructions in between to make sure that the employer's letters are notified. What I don't understand though, is that the first person I met didn't tell me why he refused to issue the letter and how to solve the problem. Since I work for a company located in Switzerland, I get paid in Switzerland and withdraw funds through the ATM (or I use internet banking). I thought that the embassy would issue a second letter without problem, that's why I didn't bother opening an account and wiring the requested 400k. Fortunately, the immigration extended the non-o for 2 months (it expires on October 7th) which gives me plenty of time to block the funds (account opened and funds wired today). I will still try to get a notified letter and go back to the embassy, just to see if they issue the document or not.

Now you have the 400,000 Baht in the bank you do not need the Embassy letter. I would not bother if I were you.

Apply with your Thai bank balance.
