Customs Postal Siezure

Hello Gentleman,

I have recently posted home a couple of items which were purchased from a market stall....These were a pair of jeans and a handbag. The items were sent using airmail and were destined for a family member. The have been stopped at the airport and i have now recieved a couple of letters from customs asking me to call the airport. My questions are:- is this a nomal procedure.....? i dont really think it would be....and if this is the case....will it be because they are after duty to be paid on the items...? and if this is the case....is it something i can ignore...? Anyone experienced this before....please advise

Which airport are calling (Thailand or your home country)?

Are the items likely to be counterfeit?

It certainly isn't normal procedure on outgoing items, but it cannot hurt to give them a call

Probably due to counterfeit goods. Other countries are not as relaxed as Thailand with this regard.

<BR><BR>Yes they were probably counterfeit....either that or Louis Vuitton and Prada have drastically reduced there prices<IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt=:jap: src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/jap.gif"> ....and it is the Thai customs trying to contact me by letter....For myself i am happy to just leave the items at the airport....Id rather escape the hassel and probably a heffty duty bill in the process.....any further comments would be appreciated

your first mistake was putting a return address/contact on the package, because what you did was illegal and could face fines and/or jail

yes, they are opening every one of the 100's of thousands if not millions of letters and parcels everyday with magical robots.

Its probably less than 1%.

Yes its normal. Thailand is cracking down on counterfeit goods, Ha, But it is normal for the UK to scan all mail from around the world and if found to be counterfeit they will be destroyed.

If you list contents as " handbag and sunglasses " or similar they are likely to think its fake and see this as a great way to extort money, ive never heard of anyone getting stopped at the airport on the way out with fake goods, but sent by post ive had a few phone calls to ask what was inside but never had one opened, the times they are a changing

Times are changing....I thought it a bit odd the very first time i send something back home it gets stopped...BUMMER....!....so what next do i tell the wife and kids im going on a long holiday or will i have to sell the wife and kids so i dont have to.... ....!
