Cambodians Plan 'Day Of Anger' Against Thailand

They are also expected to call on Thailand to honor its agreement to allow Cambodia to register the Preah Vihear temple as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Which it will not - because as we all know, this is Lieland.

Is this the same government that Thailand is accusing of providing mercenaries, agents provocateur on (and safe harbor to) the red shirt barricades? Cambodians despite the last hundreds of years have nothing against the Thai, save for these modern land disputes. This is a typical third world reaction to the hate that has been spewn upon them by Thailand.

Harboring Taksin was one of Hun Sen's few political miscalculations during his reign. Having said that, Cambodia has not and will not suffer for it. A finger in the eye of its arrogant neighbor.

I am sure the unions deal is a qpquo thing.

Thats not entirely true, i know many Cambodians and have spent quite some time over there and i can tell you quite confidently that anti-thai sentiment in cambodia is very strong. They view thais as dishonest and always trying to get the better of them with an air of superiority over the Cambodians.

Cambodians are very influenced by economic gain, and will easily pose as a friend if they feel they will be getting ahead, very shrewd people. Smarter than many people give them credit for.

Apart from that, boy do they love to get drunk !

Sounds like the Thais and the Chinese.

One of the things I am astonished by is how Thai people defend their country/people and get upset with anyone critizing anything about Thailand,

when they themselves are the absolute individuals with no regards at all to the wellfare of their own country fellow men/women.

If someone is being ripped off because one doesn't come from Thailand and express anger about it upset you that much,

wouldn't it be better for you to write something like, I whish we could treat forreigners better than we do.

There's a saying, treat others like you want to be treated yourself. Actually found in most religions,

even Buddismen but then again, you "stole" buddismen from India and almost proclaim it as yours only.

I wish we could treat foreigners better. But also I wish you have a better logic in this. Does that mean all christian countries "stole" Christianity from Jews as well? Most Thais know it come from India, know the name of the buddha, the town he was born, the name of his parents, etc. I'm not sure where you heard someone claimed that it's Thai's only. That person must be really crazy and stupid, that kind of people is not exclusive to Thailand though. It's just like if someone claimed that Christianity is Vatican's. Do you think there are people like that?

If you got rip off here, you got my sympathy on that. But to bash Thailand for the sake of bashing is just pathetic.

If anyone (trends or racism) is doing anything wrong in Europe, does that mean I can't critize people (trends or racism) in South America or Thailand?

You can twist and turn as much as you want, critic is good when you try to enlighten a subject, don't you agree?

It's so common to try to turn around and attack on a completely different topic than the original post was all about and you did exactly what I said in my post.

Thailand proclaim to have 94% Buddists but no one (scarcely) follows Buddas way of living.

It's not something anyone can do, agree, but even the easiest of his philosophy rules Thai's bend.

Do not ask for money, give away your wealth instead.

Now, I still haven't met any Thai person that doesn't go to the temple to ask Budda for money. That's how true most Thai's are to their "own" religion.

There are even figurines of Budda holding a bowl, people believe has gold in it, never be poor or always have food.

And YES, I have even heard monks proclaiming Buddismen as a Thai religion, not the religion of Thailand. See the difference in meaning?

Could be of a language translation error or just that Thai people live under the impression that Buddismen exists in Thailand with neighbouring countries and that those countries got it from Thailand?

Have met buddists here in Thailand who get suprised when someone tells them there are buddists in India these days.

The level of education might be the reason for this or is it Thai people's notion they are superior?

I'm not bashing Thailand, as every country (almost) in the world have so many wondeful things to rant about, but Thai racism isn't one of them.

I have no idea if you are a Thai person or not and if you are, I'm not at all surprised you react the way you do,

like I said, as soon as anyone critize Thailand in any way, you just have to defend the whole of Thailand and strike back with things that don't have anything to do with what I said in my previous post.

To prove my point, my line *There's a saying, treat others like you want to be treated yourself. Actually found in most religions* you didn't mention with one word, I wonder who is doing the bashing now?

When writing in a forum, limited time and space is present so a more lenient way to read posts should be imposed of the reader.

I could critize poeple believing in any religion using the religion for their own purposes and I sometimes do when the topic arise, but now it was all about Thailand.

Thai's take what they want, no matter from who, regardless who they might hurt in the process, land, money, properties and lives.

They don't care much, but when it comes to forreigners, they don't hold back at all as the ongoing perception for Thai's is that the authorities won't do much about it.

Until Thai people/police and authorities starts to treat us as equal under the Thai law, there will be a huge number of forreigners bashing Thailand and Thai's.

I have been ripped off but not to a greater extent, I'm not letting anyone. Hence I don't own a house or any type of easily robbed properties.

No different to most neighboring countries. There's usually some gripe to be had or they simply take the piss out of each other and make derogatory remarks. It's the same the whole world over, nothing new about that.

Govt Vigilant on Cambodia's "Day of Anger"

The deputy prime minister in charge of national security says Cambodia's “Day of Anger” against Thailand is a mere attempt to revive the country's patriotism and confirms that the Thai government will be extra vigilant on the event.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban commented on a Cambodian labor union's move to hold the “Day of Anger” against Thailand tomorrow, saying it is a mere attempt to revive patriotism among Cambodians.

Suthep refused to make further comment on the matter but affirmed that Thailand will be vigilant.

The deputy premier went on to urge Thai people to have confidence in the Thai military as it has the duty to protect the country's sovereignty.

Suthep also insisted that Thailand will live with its neighboring countries peacefully.

However, should any conflict occurs, the govenrment will seek a solution through negotiations while upholding the country's best interest.

The deputy PM added that it is not the time to severe ties with Cambodia yet despite the ongoing border dispute between the two countries.

Cambodians are very peaceful and wise because they (the ultra nationalists) make their small stuff in Phnom Penh.

The Thais are crazy because they (the ultra nationalists, Yellow Shirts) make their provocation at the border TO CREATE A WAR.

Cambodian police should prevent incident to arise. Thai army obviously helps, sometimes, the Yellow to CREATE A WAR.

Yes, indeed. It is so "peaceful and wise" to hold a national "Day of Anger."

The Cambodian Government must be planning something un-popular on Thursday ...A diversion is required to focus attention elsewhere!.

I believe Duch gets the verdict his week over the S21 torture camp trail. Maybe Hun Sen doesnt want the trails attention to remind Cambodians he was a Khmer Rouge boss himself.

Someone, has his thinking cap on. wink.gif

Agreed.

Either that or the forthcoming democrat dissolution threat needs a distraction.

y guess is F.M Kasit got on the bat-phone to his mate Hun-Sen and asked for a disturbance. The Thai press have been sabre-rattling this last week too, if you haven't noticed..... :whistling:

Lord Buddha, Guatama Siddharcha, was born in 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal, which at the time formed part of Northern India. In 24 years here I have never met a single Thai who is aware of this fact or indeed any Thai who has properly studied and truly practices Buddhism. I have met plenty of Thais though who go to the Temple to pray to win the lottery, and have witnessed no end of Thai monks in Starbucks and KFC, and just recently saw one chatting away on a mobile phone in a 1st class train carriage.

In Pattaya you can see monks smoking cigarettes in the streets.

Cambodia does not have the military capacity to fight a war against any of their neighbours; and their military are too busy enriching themselves to bother.

Much the same could be said about their Thai counterparts. Though the Thai military on paper is much stronger than the Cambodians, I am unaware of ANY successful campaign carried out by Thais in the last century. What makes you think that they want to spoil their perfect record?

If you are unaware you only have yourself to blame. in 1940-1941 Thailand went to war with France (well Indochina) after France became occupied by Germany. Thailand won new territories from Laos and Cambodia. The Victory monument in Bangkok was build to commemorate this success.

Isn't the hero of the north & northeastern Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, an Economic Advisor & person friend of Hun Sen? I wonder if Thaksin is paying these Cambodians like he did the Red Shrits to stir up problems with Thailand? Thaksin will never rest as long as he can make Thailand look bad in the eyes of the rest of the world. Wouldn't other governments have taken him out even without a bounty?

During the two months of the Red Shirt/UDD occupation and eventual riots in Bangkok the whole world saw how weak the Thai military is. When a few Reds approached them they dropped their rifles and ran thus supplying the Reds with more weapons. After the Burning of Bangkok I really doubt that the Cambodian military is the least bid frightened by the Thai military or the government that allowed the occupation of Bangkok and the buildings that were burned.

The Cambodian Government must be planning something un-popular on Thursday ...A diversion is required to focus attention elsewhere!.

Both the Cambodian and Thai governments need as many diversions as they can get; they're both loving that border conflict.

I imagine a phone conference between Abhisit and Hun Sen:

Hun Sen: Hey, shall we really keep fighting over that stupid temple?

Abhisit: Absolutely!

Hun Sen: Awesome! See ya!

Wrong!

Hun Sen has nothing to win with a rift at this moment. He's the strong man of the country. No election before years. It's even bad for him because some ultra nationalists pretend he's weak with the Thais (he's indeed very patient).

Hun Sen and other Cambodians indeed want the border marked out and peaceful. Land and sea borders. First of all in the Gulf of Thailand, just because it means money! Peace with Thailand = more income in Cambodia (and in Hun Sen's pockets).

Also, war is too expensive for a poor country like Cambodia. This is a luxe Thailand can afford, not Cambodia.

Please do not transfer Abisith's perversion to other country leaders. They have enough with their own ones.

:-)

Wrong! lol

Nothing happens in Cambodia without Hun Sen's say so. He is de facto dictator and controls the press, TV and unions under a facade of democracy.

Of course the Cambodians want the border honoured as per the 1962 declaration but no Thai government was prepared to do that until Thaksin's lawyer (the then FM) made a declaration in 2008 (?) before retracting it after the yellow mob went to the border for a scrap.

This problem will happen again and again until Thailand swallows its collective pride and abides by the 1962 decision.

Hun Sen doesn't want war, but rattling sabres against a perceived common enemy has worked for dictators in the past and will work again, I'm sure.

Good post

The defending army will always have more motivation / strength than the invader. In the present case, the invader is Thailand. Every time Thai tried to take some Cambodian territory during the past 2 years they had casualties.

I'm not sure the Thai population is ready to have dead soldiers for a land that, anyway, they'll have to give back to Cambodian due to international laws (unless they want to be a rogue country).

Thai army is tops..... as long as the enemy is not shooting back aka May 19 2010

Why do either country need a military? Could it be to stuff their own pockets and over throw a voted in government on a regular basis?

And in the last quote here you have the story in a nutshell..... only 170,000,000 to spend this budget... some cluster bombs will be a good deterrent for them oiks up North.. those chappies that sold us them bomb detectors might have a few in stock

Interesting, because virtually all the students at my school can tell me the full name and birth date of Siddartha.

How many of them know that his birthplace is in Lumbini, Nepal and how many of them know a fellow Thai who has made a pilgrimage to his shrine there? That was my main point actually, I'd be very surprised if they didn't know his birth date, the rest of it speaks for itself.

Indeed, the Thais in general actually know very little about Buddhism and certainly don't live by his principles and teachings. Many have told me that Lord Buddha is Thai, most don't have a clue where he was born and some say he came from India, which is a simplification in itself since he was born to the ruling family of an independent kingdom. More disturbing is the fact that nobody seems to care about the vast riches and greed of what should be an extremely humble institution, and nobody batters an eyelid when a Monk is eating fried chicken or drinking coffee that costs the equivalent sometimes to a day's wages for an upcountry labourer. The latest mobile phones, cigarettes, Ist class privileges - a total disgrace that reflects the complete moral breakdown of the country as a whole. And the schools are no better, only the other day I was party to a conversation amongst some prominent Thais on the entrance "tea money" demanded by the various headmasters of Thai private schools from around Pattaya, Sri Racha and right up to Bangkok. Some years ago when I was school hunting the going rate for one in particular was 80,000 baht "tea money", which I have since heard was a bargain!

A person in the United States once said "why can't we all just get along?". By the name of this demonstration (Day of ANGER) the Cambodian people are admitting they are not good people (and of course I am only referring to the organizers - not all Cambodians). This border has been disputed since the dam_n French were colonizing Indochina - and it was wrong then. Why not simply make this site a combined site - share it??? Do not destroy something that is of such value to both countries - let both countries (and the world) enjoy it,

The Buddha said "Our problems are not solved by physical forces, by hatred, by war, Our problems are solved by lovingkindness, by gentleness, by joy." Work together for the betterment of all.

The Rand Corporation think tank in the US once came up with the idea that if the US was in the grip of extreme internal strife that a useful ploy would be to stage an "alien" crash landing to make it look like the US were under attack from an external enemy. The desired effect would be for the populace to stop fighting each other and unite against the external threat.

From where Abhisit is sitting all of this could be pretty handy :whistling:

Lord Buddha, Guatama Siddharcha, was born in 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal, which at the time formed part of Northern India. In 24 years here I have never met a single Thai who is aware of this fact or indeed any Thai who has properly studied and truly practices Buddhism. I have met plenty of Thais though who go to the Temple to pray to win the lottery, and have witnessed no end of Thai monks in Starbucks and KFC, and just recently saw one chatting away on a mobile phone in a 1st class train carriage.

Erm, Bangkok has a famous park called Lumphini Park, named after Buddhas birth place ( http://en.wikipedia....i/Lumphini_Park ), which would suggest they are aware of it as a Nation at least. Most Thais don't btalk religion (politics etc), so unless you specifically ask them, you could assume they didn't know, I guess. On the odd occation I have talked with Thais about Buddha, they have always known he was Indian. One thing to note is that Thailand is Theravada Buddhist; one of few countries in fact. It may well be the denomination that they eblieve to be quite Thai - the possible reason is that after the division (Mahayana break away in 1 BC) Theravada Buddhism demised over the centuaries. From what I have read, Thailand received Theravada Buddhism from Sri Lanka, but later Sri Lanka became Hindu again (pre-Muslim era) - Buddhism was propogated back to Sri Lanka from Thailand (hence many Buddhist treasures from Sri Lanks found their way up to Norther Thailand - Lanna). So, one could say that it was only Thailand (or the kingdoms that make it up today) and close neighbours that kept it from disappearing all together.

Note: Therevada Buddhist's don't really do pilgrimages as they believe he ascended (spirit wise), so what is the point? Going to see a bit of land he walked on??? That, in its self, is quite non-Buddhist (against the imperminant nature of things - its past and gone so of no importance). They may visit out of a pure interest, like they may also visit the Vatican when in Rome.

Note 2: Christianity IS Vatican owned - the bible all main denominations follow come from the bbible written (put together) by the Roman Empiror Constantine - so its a Roman religion, based in the Middle East.

Most Thais I know would not think highly of a monk eating in KFC (as they are supposed to eat offerinbgs at bthe temple and only one meal a day before noon). What must be remembered here is that many men become short term monks for family reasonsw rather thaqn religious ones, these 'monks' should not be confused with real ones. The other thing to remember is that a purely Theravada Buddhist thought on this bwould be that that 'monk' is breaking his vows and harming his own Karma - but this has no affect on your Karma or you on theirs (only their own actions they base on it perhaps), so is of no personal concern.

PS: My kids go to a good Thai private school (English Program) and we have never paid a stang outside of the normal school fees, small books fee, lunch money (less than 100B a day) and school bus money. It is mainly International schools that do this in my experience.

'Day of Anger'. That's an appropriate expression for this part of the world. Is there anywhere in the world who's recent history is so steeped in war and bloodshed, endemic corruption, political ineptitude and genocide as in South East Asia? Those first impressions of a gentle smiling and spiritual people betray an insidious and dangerous reality. Civil war and genocide is unmatched elsewhere in the world save perhaps parts of Africa. Something sinister lurks behind those friendly smiles. One only has to look back to the seventies to witness the unprecedented lunacy of the the Khymer Rouge. How is it that young men nurtured in the ambulatories of Buddhist monasteries could follow the demented psychopath Pol Pot and torture and murder millions, obliterate villages and slit the throats of children in furtherance of a sick and warped political idealism? Something sinister lurks for sure.
