Hi to everyone!

I'm Matteo, 28y.o. from Italy! I'm new on this forum, but I've read many things...

I have some requests, and I hope I'm not bothering... :D

I'm planning to go in Thai for the first time in January, to meet again a nice lady I met an year ago in italy...

when I'll be there I'd like to see Bangkok, some days in a resort (someone told me that Koh Samet is a nice place), then Chiang Mai.

I'm thinking which way could be nicer to travel from Bkk to Chiang Mai... train or car? I won't use any flight cause I want to see everything while I'm there!

I have 30 days to spend around thailand!

do u have any other advice to give me?

Thanks a lot

EDIT: just now she told me that she wants to bring me to Pattaya too... she wants me to see how's life there.. do u think I should go there too?

matteo....

congrats and welcome to thailand....

it is an awful personal honor to be able to say.... welcome.... to someone who is coming to thailand for the very first time.... :jap:

january is quite a far distance away.... there are some 5 months in between.... you are very fortunate to have met a nice lady from thailand a year ago.... in italy....

i'll bet your heart is throbbing every time that her image comes to mind.... :)

you should be able to see all of thailand; eastern, northern, north-eastern and southern regions.... within 30 days.... what a lucky fellow you are....:P

will you be traveling alone or with her or with her.... and her chaperon (s).... ?

during my much younger yonder years, i traveled from chiengrai to penang with "her" and her three chaperons.... who were to examine me from my hippie long hair head to my dirty toes.... :ermm:

it was a very interesting and exciting trip back then.... in 1973.... LOL the roads were quite bumpy and adventurous.... we hired a white volkswagen van....

many young people nowadays do not have the opportunity and advantage like most of us, older folks, who have chaperons and such.... a week into our trip.... we all were doing THE TWIST.... on every dance floor we could find.... that was one of my happiest week of memory.... then.... she was untimely taken away by second-hand smoke in salt lake city.... our young college son and myself could only watch with horror the cruelty and pain of lung cancer.... however, she is still vibrantly alive in our memory.... and we do hope to see her again someday.... on a new earth....

at any rate.... as for you young romeo--matteo.... if you could tell us a little bit more about your young lady whom you are flying out to visit in thailand and her family circle.... then we could perhaps offer you a much more appropriate and exciting traveling schedule and such.... wanna do that for us, matteo....?

you surely deserve the best one month holidays with your lady friend in thailand.... and she must be just as excited as you are.... whatever you do--BE YOURSELF.... cheers....

If going to Chaing mai one usually takes the overnight train, not much to see. There is probaly a day train but not very comfortable. Fly to Chaing Mai and rent a car or a car and driver for day trips around the area.

There are a few sights along the road to and around Mai Hong Song.

Doi Itanon is also a great day trip out of Chaing Mai. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Let her take you to Pattaya. Take a look around and make your own mind up about the place unlike many on this forum. In addition, watch how your lady behaves when in Pattaya, if she knows too many people in "the business" chances are she is from the same background. No matter though there is good and bad in all walks of life, just keep your wits about you and beware any proposed business deals.

Welcome to the forum, just remeber 50% of what you read is lies and the other 50% ain't true. ;)<_<

Hi Matteo!!

Congratulations to find a nice lady. It is something that we all like to do, and some of us have already done that.

Many of us first after little less good experiencies.

By having said that, be careful my friend. Be open to love, and be open to be a nice guy. But whatever you do, also be alert when it comes to money. because here in Thailand it is about the money, money and the money.

You can find happiness here, many of us have done that. There is so many good girls around. But you can also find bad luck here, because there is a lot of bad girls around.

What it concerns a travel-schedule it is hard to recommend such. But I do agree Koh Samet is beutiful and VERY expensive. Take a couple of days there (max. 3 nights) Pass Pattaya on your way up and watch how she is behaving there (like one other poster mentioned)

Rent a car in Bangkok and drive around and enjoy Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Try to pass by Isaan-region on your way back, so Khorat, Khon Kaen and all small places you pass there in Isaan. And spend som time in Bangkok a fantastic city that has much to offer for you.

Good luck and again as everybody says, HOLD ON TO YOUR MONEY..

Glegolo, Chaiyaphum

whatever you do.... do not drive in thailand....

drivers in thailand are dare devils who do not understand traffic rules, regulations or traffic lights.... particularly the motorcycle riders....

for your own safety..... rent a car private care with driver or a new van, if you like, to get around the country....

you and yours will see many things that most tourists would not see nor experience....:D

when my son and his new bride came to visit.... i did just that.... and we had a grand time.... without any fatigue or safety factor to interfere with our pleasures.... :violin:

Complete right what regards the safety-issues. Furthermore if you run into whatever accident, maybe not your fault. IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT...

But can also say to you that all my friends and myself, we are driving here and it is tricky, but if you just are very observant of these motorbik-riders and other idiotic car-drivers you will be fine. Just drive in your own pace and be careful.

I drove for 2 years without anything else than my swedish driving-license. You should have a international driving license which is very easy to fix in Europe. Just find out in Italy where to get it.

The roads here are really good I must say, at least the big ones. When I rent I always rent a car not a pick up. Cost between 800-1000 baht per day (mostly 1.000 baht..) This is my experience, maybe somebody else have other

experiencies.

Good luck

I agree that the driving in Thailand can be a little challenging, but dont forget Matteo is from Italy, anyone that can drive in Rome, should be able to drive anywhere.laugh.gif,

I personaly did not drive the first time I went to Thailand, but the second time I went there I rented a car , drove everywhere and did not have a problem. except for my occasional 200 bath contributions to the local traffic cop. rolleyes.gif Now when ever I am in Thailand I drive my sister in laws Pick up truck. no problem lust stay out of the center of BKK,

Normally when I drive to BKK I park outside the City at a shopping Center and take a Taxi in to the city. Sky train is a great way to get around.in BKK
