hi, im back to thailand from the uk in october, the plan was to stay 30 days, but the flights are a lot cheaper if i stay 32 days.... what happens when i come to leave? fined? arrested? how much? will it affect my next visit?

Why not just get a 60-day visa before your trip.

Quick turnaround via post at Royal Thai Consulate in Hull HERE

or just pay the fine ,,,,,,,,500 baht per day

Agree with dvdlock and lite beer. Why pay a fine when the tourist visa is currently free and Hull consulate process postal applications in 24 hours?

yes both options viable to you,,, apply for tourist in which case the visa is free, all you have to pay is the 8 quid postage, or 10 quid to apply in person,, or as mentioned just pay the 500 baht per day fine,,, no effects on your next trip, as I know many people who do this regularly too,,

That is not an option.

If staying for more than 30 days you legally need a Visa.

Without one there is a good chance that the airline will not let you on the flight.

Why take the risk?

Sorry OP, I stand corrected there, yes I know many guys that have a few days overstay on each trip and they are regular travellers to Thailand, and no probs on re entry, they just pay the fine on exit,, but Lite beer, is correct there,,, at the end of the day it is down to the airline that you book with as to whether they will allow you to fly,,,,,, best to go for the visa,,,, thanks for the correction lite beer.

Sorry if I came over a bit strong but the Airline is responsible if you are refused entry to Thailand.

They are fined and have to return you back to the departure point.

I made this mistake on the first visit a week before departure, 32 day trip

Airline said no visa, no flight.

Had to get a visa in a hurry before the flight, takes about 3 days from Hull or Birmingham by post.

The surest way undoubtedly is to get a visa in advance if you intend to stay more than 30 days.

I always did it that way, but I met once an Irishman who stayed 35 days and got an extension at Immigration.

Perhaps he could also have risked the overstay fine (in his case THB 2,500, I guess).

ok i will just get a visa beforehand, sounds like the sensible thing to do,

does the face that i will be leaving the country the second week for a visit to vietnam make any difference....

If you have an air ticket before you start travel for that exit to Vietnam there would not be any need for a tourist visa.

Edit to add you would technically require proof of ability to receive a visa on arrival (letter) for Vietnam but do not believe the airline would check that far if shown a ticket out of Thailand.
