Too much red tape to function here I'd say, it's about time the hais realised that outside investment is good and they should start to make it easier, I'm sure if you looked into this in detail you would find a Thai owner making it impossible to do business here through rent charges or whatever, sound familiar to all you past and present owners.

doesn't mean they are making loads of anything, I'd love to see the cash flow/balance sheet, I'd say it's pretty tight, in fact I've been in the store several times recently and customers are few, maybe tesco will be next to go

It's just a store. Really, even if they just leave a big old hole in that space, is it going to have a serious impact on anyone's life here? Exceptions may be if you or a loved one works at Carrefour.

IMHO if it came down to TL and Big C I would vote for Big C.

I am not sure that Carrefour would like to sell it to Big C, as Big C is part of the Casino Group ("Géant"), the other big French super & hyper-markets group and Carrefour's biggest competitor...

And Tesco sucks by the way, they are supposed to be a low cost store, which they are not. You can get almost everything they sell for the same prices at B-C or Care4. There selection is very poor when it comes to foreign goods. And the beef they sell, well you would be better off buying caned dog-food than whatever they try to push off as beef.

I hope Care4 does not leave by the way; it is my favorite large store. They have great bread and good BBQ ribs too.

I have always had rather a problem with Carrefour in Pattaya. I drive into the car park and then when exiting I find I am in a totally different part of the town, and get completely lost. Not sure how that works...

Given what is here (Carrefour, Big C, and Trashco Lotus), Walmart would be, in my opinion, an improvement, and it certainly couldn't be any worse. I would welcome their arrival even though I was not a Walmart shopper back in the US. I doubt that the "average shopper" at Trashco or Carrefour back in the UK or France, respectively, has a passport or looks much like the shoppers at the same stores here in Thailand -- so what? The same people that now shop in Carrefour, Big C and Trashco would be thrilled to shop at a Walmart if one was here in Pattaya. This isn't the US or France (or even the UK), and no one should try to gauge what is (or would be) here by what is available there... "same, same, but different".

Me, I shop at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, AND at WalMart, among other stores, when I'm back in the States. I don't see any problem.

Be great if Thailand had WalMart. Soon we'll have an Ikea anyway.
