Good Place To Camp And Fish Not Too Far From Bangkok?

Featured Replies

Would love to go camping soon with friends, thought I would ask if anyone here knows any good places.

We want to set up a tent each, next to the lake/river and fish, camp fire and drink booze.

In order to avoid problems with pollution, toxins etc, I suggest you go far from Bangkok. Kanchanaburi is nice :)

One more thing...if you do decide to use a 'Fishing Park', be aware that chemicals may have been used to propogate/sustain/enhance the fish. I would never eat the fish I caught in a fishing park.

Kanchanaburi is on our list and I have heard a few people talk about it. I might have to check it out

I second Kanchanaburi for a nice, semi wilderness experience in Thailand. There are Lots of clean mountain streams and big reservoirs. Unfortunately, any public waters with catchable numbers of fish will all be in national parks where it's illegal to fish. In open waters the locals catch and keep everything available. You have to go a long way back in the hills to find public places with a reasonable chance of catching something. As already mentioned, don't eat the fish from Asian fishing parks, but they are your easiest place to find fish. I prefer heading farther out on my motorbike..

We rented a houseboat on the big reservoir in Kachanaburi, and the boat staff fished and cooked those fish for our meals.  Was that legal?  Or was it just being done under the radar?

If we had fished, would that have been OK?

It was a great trip, and we are going to do it again.  We had discussed bringing fishing gear this time, and while I am the only foreigner going, I don't want to be doing anything illegal.
