I'm trying to apply for a multi-entry tourist visa here in South Africa (I'm a british citizen) who would like to go to Thailand.

On their website they state that you shouldn't book anything before you have your flights but under requirements here they say you need

an air-ticket

I have tried phoning them to no avail. Any ideas?

Give the consulate your proposed travel itinerary (flight dates, numbers, time) and state that you will buy the ticket after receipt of the visa, as suggested on their website.
