Rental Car Insurance

Recommended Posts

Mrs Coxhoedave is back off to Thailand next week and has decided to hire a Honda Civic through Fast Car Hire via the Thai Visa website.

The rate includes "First Class Insurance" or Collision Damage Waiver with Zero Excess , Third Party Liability and Vehicle Theft Waiver.

Is this not the same thing?

Many of car rental companies or private inviduals offering new cars with full insurance. All new cars have full insurance for free the first year. So, what they do is rent tose cars, like Vios or Cities with the free insurance they got, for dumping prices, like 16 or 18'k per month, just to cover their monthly payments for the car. BTW, Most of those cheap rental cars are in bad shape after 2 years anyway, because this kind of "car rent business peaple" never put new tires, shocks, bushes or what ever, on their car, because they not calculate rental rates for covering the fixings, so there is no money left to support the vehicle, this only by the way.

So the problem is, that those " first year free insurance" are only for "pravate use" not for rental purposes. So in case you hire a car with this "first year free insurance" is NOT covered in case of a accident. A car rent insuracne cost about 24'k per year, that's mean 2000 Baht per month for a small or midsize vehicle. So therefore big multinational companies asking higher prices, but the cars are correct insured with "Rental Car Insurance" (Commercial Type). So there is only one way: When you rent a car, ask for a copie of the insurance policy. Make sure there is mention about rental purposes. Private insuramce policies have the remark: "for private use only, not for rent or hire". Don't trust what the staff of the car rent company tell you. You have to see the insurance policy, otherwise you pay if you get involved in a car accident.

Tthe company I mentioned is Fast Car Hire. They offer inclusive car rental with various car rental companies. In this case it is the multi national company Budget.. With this in mind it would be pretty pointless checking to see if they were trying to fob the missus off with private insurance.

Thanks for the info anyhow.

Budget will have the correct insurance, i'm sure. Fas Car hire is like a brooker. If they dealing with Budged, it will be ok, if they would deal with some local company you have to check.

Hi

Yes you need a special insurance for a hire car, my gf have a few cars she rent out and she have insurance for that, her brother have a rather big car rent company and he would not rent out her cars without that insurance.
