I would Trust the Local village Thai's, more than the Farang house sitters.

We do not have any police in our Village, Locals do fence their stock in at night with the corrals covered by a Mosquito net to keep them healthy, in 5 years there has not been one incident of crime in my village.

Unlike Pattaya ,when I lived there something happened every night, and the persons responsible for the crimes were not always Thais

Thailand is much safer from crime then the US!

We are just a little bit outside of Bangkok in a fenced moo bahn with security. This is nice but still i let my wifes younger sister take care of the house when we are off for a Holiday. We pay her some money and hope that things go well.

We have a place somewhat in the sticks, sort of a modest 4-plex. No fenced community. Our concern wasn't about theft of anything but rather just to keep squatters or partiers out to avoid senseless damage. For the sake of convenience, we have family members live there year round. We contact them frequently to keep tabs on things. In exchange, they pay for the utilities, their own food, and keep the fruit trees watered. They provide their own furnishings. We pay to have bottled water delivered. Overall, it seems to work out pretty well for everyone.

I can only relate the experiences of my wife and her family in a small Issan village. I mentioned this thread to her and told her how many had never experienced theft. She laughed. Her village has problems, and everybody knows everybody. One house, three away, had the motorbike stolen right in front of their "store". Grandma was sitting there, but sleeping. Another house had a PC stolen. Dogs disappear all the time...actually, the truck came buy last week buying dogs...but sometimes they just take them. The MIL will never leave her house empty. Her 1/2 sister stays there when she comes down here to visit.

I totally agree with Pattaya. It's a real problem here. But, from what I have heard, it happens all over. Kinda like saying I've been to Africa every year for the past 15 years, never take meds, and have never gotten malaria. Good luck for sure....

Sorry, why are you taking about people living 10,000 Miles from here ?

I don't understand what you mean. unsure.gif

It means that if you are living so far away from here, you are very likely to be out of touch with the reality over here, people tend to think that more or less the life events are the same in all countries, things like being able to call a proper police force to deal with unpleasant events, helping people involved in an accident without expecting to be made a victim yourself by the person you are helping, banks that make your money disappear and everyone keeps working as usual (just kiss & goodbye to your money) and so on, really is a endless list and whom comes from a different country might just remain shocked to find out about all this(if they will ever do).

That's a very interesting report Craig, do you know where these dogs all end up to? why a truck would come to buy dogs? it reminds me of an old very quiet dog that was using to come to our home and our young puppy was always so happy to play with her and pester the old dog which anyway was always coming back, then one day it stopped comings, so after a few weeks i asked to my wife if she knew what happened to it......apparently the old lady to which the old dog was belonging to, had eaten the dog......

Here's why, I was lambasted for telling the truth about this in another thread, it's common for them to trade you a bucket for a dog but generally not money.. Dog meat is big money in Cambo for example and some even make it all the way to southern China and beyond especially as the Chinese crack down on breeding them for meat in China..

Thailand Dog mafia

Personally while a dog lover myself I can't fault it much as it is keeping an impossible task of stray dogs somewhat under control and they are being used for food instead of just killed and wasted. It's tough for our Western sensitivities to handle since we think of them only as pets and loyal ones at that but here it is normal, effective and necessary way of culling the stray population and gaining some benefit from it.. Of course taking someones pet is over the line and why you should be aware and take close care of your pets if you live in the boon doggles of Issan or anywhere else for that matter..

You need to get out of Pattaya, and see the rest of Thailand -To start a tread on house sitting because of crime in Thailand. Your experience relating to This Crime Wave, from stories told to you by your wife of one village in the Issan.

I have lived in rural Thailand for 5 years, Sattahip for 4 years and Pattaya for one year, and have not seen your Crime wave in any place but Pattaya.

In yesterdays News Clippings was a story on the police cracking down on Falang criminals in Pattaya, Many of the bars in Pattaya are Falang owned . There is the problem of Thais coming to where the Falangs are to take their money, some by force if necessary.

Do yourself and Thailand a favor and become knowledgeable on the subject you post about.

A resident from a crime free village in Central Thailand!

I can't get any more rural then this :D we are not in Issan but just on the other side from the "mountains" or hills, whatever you want to call them, yes crime is endemic, sometime i ask people around in other villages about all the anti-theft precautions they have taken, as at first sight all seems to be so quiet and peacefull, things like a "metal gate" installed together with the main door, broken glass on top of walls, metal fences on the windows and the sooo many dogs all around, the answer is always been the same "THIEFS", i ask them what happend to the promised new road the governor was talking about and for which money were collected.....he stole them, so no asphalt anymore for the country road, welcome to the rural Thailand :jap:

Wow WarpSpeed, that confirmed some of my worries, great informative post and link that without any doubts deserve a thread on his own, for all those that just visit or live in an area of the country subjected to the dog kidnappings it's very important to know about the dangers, in the rural area we live into, there is a man with a motosay and the tipical "sidecar" attached to it, he comes to collect recyclable rubbish from all the households around and he pays for it.....more than once he's been spotted just helping himself with stuff left unattended where either the homeowner was away or just distracted for that important moment, i am sure this dog collectors are not different, be aware people!

As for references, I've worked as a police volunteer for more than 4 years

Wait a minute, is that a good reference or not? :)

You must be relating to the USA, with all the crime and white collar embezzlement, Caroline Guiliani 20 year old daughter of the Ex mayor of New York arrested yesterday for shoplifting, Winona Ryder.

You are not talking about the Rural Central Thailand I know, I have a Iron Gate and a chain link fence around my property and it is not put up to keep crime out, But to beautify my property.

I lived in Sattahip for 4 years and was questioned on a bus from Bangkok to Kilo-tip, BIB looking for a gang of Falangs that robbed a bank in Pattaya and killed a policeman in the process.

There must be a crime wave of people stealing dogs, and the trash man stealing trash in your part of Thailand . Crime, tell me about a Ponzi Scheme where hundreds of people are cheated out of their life's savings

Thanks that was really an open-eye experience quality post, now i know that all crimes occurring in Thailand, if there are any at all, it must to be because of these evil farangs alikes, i always suspected that all those security measures were in reality just a decorating feature, but why then i couldn't see at least 1 Hello Kitty or a Doraemon on them? all these thai locals surely don't know what they are talking about, is the chain you are using a gold's chain by any chances? i think i am going to do the same :lol:

I housesit here in Pattaya and the surrounding area. Been doing it for a while. Mostly places with pets - pets are happy to stay home and their owner don't have to worry! It makes a change for me and as my permanent residence is rent free I dont have to worry about my place. Yes, I get paid as well. I buy my own food etc. House owners pay electric and other household bills. Can be anything from a long weekend to a month - I dont mind.

I also look after places that are owned but only used as a "holiday" home. Owners e-mail me when they or their guests are coming and I go and give the place a cleanup and put some regular items in the fridge - milk, coffee, tea, sugar, bacon, eggs bread etc so that on arrival they can relax! Works well for me!

You do not know what you are talking about, That there is more crime in Thailand then back in falang land, while I was in the states for a month last May, there is what you call a crime wave, carjacking, drive-by shootings, murders, My sons all carry guns in there cars and into their homes for protection, Guns are legal in Arizona,

You are trying to tell me that the stealing of dogs, trash being stolen, house breaking and entering etc is rampant in Rural Thailand,

I do not have to ask the locals as I live in the same village as they do.

The only time I have been a victim of a crime when I had a party with only Falang friends invited or attended, and one of them took my Blue tooth cell phone.

I find your post uninformative and bias, Your attempts at humor is not very humorous, You can put a gold chain link fence up where the sun don't shine ,if you want to.

You find it very hard to stomach ,that some falangs get along well with Thais and are not a victim of your crime wave!

Why would the USA have 2.5 million persons incarcerated ,more that in other country in the world including China ,Russia and Thailand.
