Hi Steve,

Your wife doesn't have to change her name and as she hasn't she isn't yet known by another name so I would leave the Other Names question blank.

Regarding online or paper I had a similar dilemma, we had already completed the paper forms when I read about Settlement requiring online applications. We submitted the paper forms anyway in late June of this year, not a problem they were accepted.

It seems they do accept that not everyone has easy access to the internet.

Good Luck.

Please note that whilst the end of the online process requires you to print out your form and I suggest you save it in .pdf form in case you screw it up or something, some questions and the answers you gave to those questions do not appear on the printed out version. They assure you that those answers are retained but they are definitely not on the print out.

i also overlooked the aspect of the online application for the settlement visa, we have spent 2 months putting together our package and the wife is submitting it on thursday, so ours is also in paper form and i am also worrying now.

also guys, how many photocopies of original docs have you supplied? i have kept copies of everything and put all originals in the application. if i copied everything our application woud be 3 inches thick.

regards.

Although the embassy prefer settlement applicants to complete an online form; it is not compulsory. One can complete a paper form if one wishes.

If completing an online form, one can then make an appointment to submit the application and have biometrics taken. One still has to print out the form and take it to this appointment. Making an appointment is not compulsory, one can simply print out the form and then turn up and wait. Obviously, though, making an appointment is a sensible option as it can reduce the waiting time at the VAC.

If completing a paper form, one cannot make an appointment but will have to turn up at the VAC and wait. How long the wait is depends, obviously, on how busy they are; people are seen on a 'first come, first served' basis. I've heard of people being in and out within the hour, but I've also heard of people waiting most of the day.

It is not necessary to provide photocopies of all supporting documents; but if you want a particular document returned then you should provide a copy.

See How to Apply.
