Just a note to say that visa pick up in Kuala Lumpur has shifted from mid-day to late afternoon. The embassy website still has conflicting/incongruent information. Their website says that visa pickup/collection is now 230pm, but their website still also states that "consular services" (and tourist and other visas are listed/highlighted as "consular service") end at 12 noon. New rules, and I learned the hard way even though I tried to research in advance...Visa pickup/collection is now officially 230pm, so DO NOT try to make a 330 or 400pm flight out of KUL to BKK, you will not make it. On the visa collection form they now scratch out the old 1130-1230 collection time and now simply scratch in 230pm. The new visa collection rules now require at least a 430pm departure. After showing them the paperwork, Air Asia to their credit, allowed me to book a later flight for the same day, at a slight additional cost. If you are caught in the same circumstance give this a try, but make sure you arrive to Air Asia's (or other airlines) offices with your visa/passport collection reciept.

Nothing new here, this has been going on for at least the past 2 years, and was mentioned in this forum many times, you just simply did not do your research very well. However I am glad that you could make it with least damage.

Fool hardy, really? Giving myself four hours to arrive at the KUL airport for a 45 minute taxi drive at mid-day is being fool hardy? bjhaba says I "did not do my research?" In my post I said I did my research and got incongruent information. According to bjhaba this policy has been in place for two years? When was the last time he/she did a visa renewal in KLA? The last of my five renewals in KLA was less than a year ago and this new policy was NOT in effect. If this is such an "old" policy why are they still using forms that say pick up your visa at 11:30 am? I am sure you will rack your brain for some snide anti-Thai comment to rationalize this one.

All I was trying to do was to help other members, and what I get from "senior members" (perhaps in a pejorative sense the label is aptly applied) is misinformation and vacuous cynicism.

I myself will rise to a vacuous superficial judgement to make my own point "kuhn poot pasah tai?" And if, on a small simple plain you do, shame on you for spreading such "knowing" ignorant disinformation on this forum, again, just for the fun of you feeling superior and snide.

to OP - I was there a fortnight ago and had an extra 2 days so not an issue re collection time, bt I had noted the 2.30pm collection time from something i read here; it was my first time for visa there, prev Singapore, which operates under the same times ie drop off from 9.30am, collect 2.30pm next day . Though I was there 2.20 and people were already leaving with their passports.

Anyway - no harm in reminding people.

I'm a bit of a worrier and always take at least one extra day 'just in case'. Works out fine for me next time as am there a week around the MotoGP 10 October so no time pressures.

cheers!

You said that you have done you research well, then can you please check the Thai Embassy web in KL:

http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1321.php?depid=220

and if you do not have the time: it stated the following:

Consular section

For Visa contact :[email protected] Office Hours: Monday-Friday:09.30-13.00 & 14.30-17.00 hrs.

Consular : 09.30-11.30 hrs. (Visa Application) : 14.30-16.30 hrs. (Visa Collection)

I am sorry if I offended you meanwhile you are trying to remind the other of the situation, however, this timing was on for at least the past 2 years and my last visa from KL (In which most of them too for the past 20 years) was in January this year.

Again, I am glad that you could make it with least damage as you said (some slight difference on the airline ticket) and

have a nice day

@bjhabal:

You may indeed be correct but you shouldn't have pointed out this out correctly because then someone "lost face". ;)

on the subject of flying & picking up visas...

I was caught unexpected in between a Malaysian & Thai national holiday so the had to wait til Tues to apply...problem was that I had to fly on Wed at 1:30pm. I showed the KL embassy person my flight printout & requested to pickup in the morning.

Despite having lineups out onto the road that morning for visa applications, they did so (although not happily) for me & another traveler. However, i showed up an hour earlier to get the passport, had to wait ages & just made it to LCCT 20mins b4 check in closing.
