Hello everyone,

I've seen reference many places to a Bank form called Thor Thor 3, which is a form used by Banks to show proof of money transfer from a foreign bank into one's own bank account in Thailand. I've been told that if you ever want to get money out of Thailand you need to have this certificate. I'm about to transfer a large sum of money to buy a new car and I've contact SCB bank bank to supply me this form, but the bank people at my local SCB branch don't seem to know anything about it. Does anyone have any information about this.

Thanks,

Bangkok Bill

It is called a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form and it will be issued by SCB Headquarters in Bangkok but is only issued for amounts over 20,000 USD

They should call you and request that you go to your branch and sign the form

BUT, it is only needed if you purchase a Condo to repatriate your money; all other transactions cannot be sent back out of Thailand

Hello,

I'm transferring first about $45,000 to buy a car. Does that mean if I sell the car, I won't be able to transfer that money back to America?

Thanks for your input.

That's right

Only funds for a Condo purchased under the Condominium Act can be transferred back overseas via a Bank Wire and submission of the Foreign Exchange Transaction Form

I am sure there are other rules falling under the BOI but they are not applicable to most TV members

Obviously there are other illegal ways to get money out of Thailand but the rules here at Thai Visa prohibit any discussion of them

Why do you think the mantra here at TV is: Don't invest anything in Thailand that your are not prepared to walk away from

Dear Langsuan Man,

This is all very sobering, indeed. I'm glad I learned this now before transfering any funds. May I contact you by e-mail for a more private discussion?
