Hi,

i'm very happy that my girlfriend now has a UK visit visa for 6 months.

I have found a reasonable ticket that travels Bangkok to Mumbai (India)

and Mumbai to London.

The full route is just 1 carrier so I assume baggage will be transported from plane 1 to plane 2 and no need to go through immigration.

Thus, will my Thai girlfriend be ok to travel to England via India? 1:25 hour wait between planes.

The website says arriving terminal 2 mumbai and departing terminal 2.

Many thanks

-Jack

As long as she remains airside and does not pass through Indian immigration she will not need a visa while transiting at Mumbai.

We've just flown to Thailand with Air India at short notice (but via Delhi). While the flight was OK and the food 'just about acceptable' the biggest problem for us was that, when we checked in at Heathrow they couldn't give us our boarding passes for the Delhi to Bangkok journey and said we'd be given them in Delhi. When we arrived in Delhi there was total confusion about the lack of boarding passes and we were just left standing in a corridor without explanation for about 45 minutes before somebody, who spoke very little English, came up with some new passes. Because nobody could understand him, eventually, one of the passengers took over and read out the names and handed out the passes. My wife and daughter (who were originally going to travel on their own) have flown several times before but said that, with their limited English, they would have 'panicked' and found it almost impossible to understand where to go and what to do.

Also, even though we checked in early, we weren't given a choice on seats and for the first leg my wife was seated a row in front of us while for the second leg I was seated ten rows away from my wife and daughter.

If your g/f isn't an experienced flyer I wouldn't be booking her flight with Air India. Far better to spend a few extra pounds and go with a better airline.

Apart from our return journey we won't be flying with them again.

The luggage was the only thing we didn't have a problem with.

Jackinbkk, A post of yours on another thread........I hope this isn't what you're planning. Apart from making it more difficult for genuine applicants your g/f deserves better, after all it's her that will end up with being banned from the UK for ten years, not you!

This is one reason why I will tell my girlfriend to just seek asylum.

If you can say you want it your here (UK) for a good number of years from what I see on tele

Surely it's a joke. They would find it so easy and quick to refuse asylum to a Thai national , she'd be removed within a few weeks, and the OP would be unlikely ever to sponsor another successful appliication.

i would imagine the airline is jet airways? if so i have travelled this route a few times with no problems, just tell your girl not to mess about because no sooner are you in terminal then you are boarding again, im sure she will be fine but if she is inexperienced traveller tell her to latch on to someone who is travelling on to the uk, good luck.

This topic is about transiting at Mumbai, not asylum claims in the UK; bogus or otherwise.

Any more off topic posts will be deleted.

Most airlines will arrange for inexperienced travelers to be escorted to from the plane at the departure point, any changes en route and at the point of arrival.

It's usually free, and you simply ask when checking in.

I've travelled with Jet quite a few times on that route.

Tell your gf when she gets off the bus they take them from the plane on in Mumbai, there will be a person saying 'transit to London wait here'. She will then be given a tag for her hand luggage. Then she will be led through the airport to go through security. But tell her to double check which gate the flight to London goes from because several times this has changed from the boarding pass given in BKK.

wow I just checked the post.

I've decided to use a different airline to make it easier for her.
